Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

1990 engines were reportedly made of a lesser quality iron and were re-bored 2.0 blocks. 1991-92 engines didn't appear have these cooling issues and there are load of cheap ways to deal with cooling. If you are a turbo nut no NA engine will excite you. the LPT is a junk engine in my opinion - less p...

Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

A smattering of 900s had a 2.1 engine stock ( I think a lot of them ended up in covertables) with LH2.4.2 Ecus.

A lovely engine IMHO.

Not available here in the Uk. If you find one in the breakers it'll probably have the inlet manifold and head pinched 'cos the turbo chaps want those bits ;)

Re: Jetting Dellorto 2x40

I was thinking of putting twin Dellorto 45's on my 16v ITB manifold. Not knowing anything about carb jet settings I bought this book which is an absolute must. Seriously, best subject specific book I have read in ages. I'll be getting the one about camshafts next. Unless anyone chimes in with some a...

Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

Ahhh... shared not chared. Sorry, it took me a while to work out what you are saying. But don't take offence; your English is much better than any other language I try and speak  No. The crank position sensor is just for the EZK. The throttle potentiometer is just for the LH fuel ecu. As far a...

Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

Good point. I'll buy into that. ;)

Timely info as the engine is now on its way out of the car and I am sizing up the head work I want/need.

Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

Let me say that porting and cam choice is different depending on how the engine is going to be fueled, so if your serious the decision needs to be made for money is spent ! Really? I understand about the cam choice but how would you port differently for carb or FI if your power/torque aims remain t...

Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

Sort of o_O The Dellorto DHLA is probably the best car carb you can get with developments being made until 1989. It is significantly more tunable than the Weber DCOE and has a neat inbuilt fuel metering system in to prevent fuel surges. It can take up to 30psi boost. They were fitted as standard to ...

Re: Are Carbs a step backwards?

Thanks for the repsonses. That's pretty much what I was thinking but I thought I would out it out there. I know carbs are still used a fair bit on the track and on rallies but sensible head on EFI for a daily driver. So the carbs are on fleebay now and funds will go towards Throttle Bodies as the he...

Are Carbs a step backwards?

I am building up a tuned NA engine - and wrestling with them many decisions; which way to go, max power or wide power band, peak hp or peak torque, ITBs or Plenum, which 16v head to go with.... A short course in Systems Thinking would no doubt help! One of the things I want to consider is Carbs or s...

Re: Guess what showed up in our shop.....

Sweet baby Jesus and all the Orphans! That will be a project! :P I rememebr when I first saw the 16v 99 rally car and thought that would be a great replica build (hence the B202 16v ITB manifold you expertly fab'd up for me). There are quite a few 99T raly replicas, some very average some superb but...

That's frustrating! I'd love black carpets in my 900. Best go find me some sheep and loom.

Yes, what did you dye the carpets with? I didn't think you could dye nylon or polyesther or whatever plastic it is?

Re: Hydraulics + Fuel line setup

Right - so the pump isn't constantly pumping out at X psi. Is that the same for all aftermarket fuel pumps?

Re: Hydraulics + Fuel line setup

I don't want to confuse things but... Why would you dead-end the fuel line at the carb and not run a return hose? I know my V4 didn't have a return line but it was never going to pushed hard; it wasn't a very demanding engine. But both my carb'd 99s had furl return lines on the carbs. I would have t...
