Re: Camshaft Timing
So, I got held up, as usual  . But looking at the bright side, I found a block and head for 200€ from a formerly well runing engine :yay: . I will go and get it this weekend and overhaul the block and keep the head as a spare, since I already have nicely rebuilt head for now. Downside is, I can...

Re: Camshaft Timing
So this guy does not seem to answer me :ranting: It's not easy to find parts over here. That was a lot easier back in the USA. But I found this: http://www.elferink.nl/onderdeel.php?Alink=4311022&M=4&O=3&ArtNr=11022 I just had an idea. Is there actually a block that has a trigger wheel o...

Re: Camshaft Timing
I am not worried about labor on my part. I actually like to work on my car (if it works afterwards ).
I found a complete engine for 650€ (tranny, head, block), the owner claims that it was running good. I am just waiting for an anser from the owner.

Re: Camshaft Timing
Well, the engine was runnig rather normaly most of the time and no white smoke came out of the tailpipe. But it startet like s**t sometimes, but only sometimes. So I wasn't too suspicious. It was also leaking every now and then due to brittle hoses in front of the cylinder head, badly designed hose ...

Re: Camshaft Timing
Two of four cylinders look like the one in the picture. They are quite rough at the silverish, shiny areas. Almost feels like sandpaper when touched. I don't think they are usuable as they are right now...

Re: Camshaft Timing
So what's the way to go? Get another block that just needs a "rehone", new bearings, probably resufacing and live with the higher compression or get my current block bored out to the next standard size, get new pistons and get all the damm stuff balanced? I don't know how many payed workho...

Re: Camshaft Timing
Thank you for all the advice of how to get the timing right. A couple days ago I finally got my cylinder head back from my machine shop (cleaned, new valve stem seals, all new intake valves, pressure tested, resurfaced) and I was going to install the head on the block. So I checked the block again a...

Re: Camshaft Timing
Did not notice marks on the cams. I'll check the next time I am working on the car. I did check the intake cam first and then the exhaust cam (with a tight chain). I just used the exhaust cam picture because it was easier to spot the marks in the picture... The only thing I am not certain of is if t...

Camshaft Timing
I am about to replace my headgasket. While I disasabled my engine, I encountered somthing that I don't unterstand: I turned the camshaft untill the marks on the camshaft and the journal on top of the camshaft were aligned. As far as my knowledge goes, the zero mark on the flywheel should now align w...

Re: Gripper Limited Slip Technical Thread
Interesting. Thanks. So with a gear type LSD the wheel that has 0 traction "receives/wastes" all the power ? I wonder how important that really is in a fast rally. I mean we are not talking about slow 3mph hill climbs in 4x4, right ? OT: Probably just my screen then that produce...
