Re: Chillcast box with 5 speed conversion and type 8 primari
So perhaps the 79 case doesn't need machining? Although from what I can see the layshaft is the same part for -78 (i.e. drop gears) and 78- (chains)?

Re: Chillcast box with 5 speed conversion and type 8 primari
Layshaft/cluster gear shaft are the same thing? This is why I'm thinking we're talking about different parts perhaps? I'm referring to this shaft (although this is for a late box): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WlxXzC3_fJU/TkwV2hCPg-I/AAAAAAAABtE/C_Ok9HWFNPo/s640-Ic42/DSCF9268.JPG

Re: Chillcast box with 5 speed conversion and type 8 primari
Apologies for the rubbish photo
This is a 5 speed layshaft in the bore - fits fine? I can only assume we're talking about different parts?

Re: Chillcast box with 5 speed conversion and type 8 primari
I did pick up a random lateish 4 speed a while back, still not unwrapped it - I *think* it's a 99 one so not what you're looking for, but if it does turn out to be the one you're after, it's got your name on it.
Type 8's you're on your own

Re: Chillcast box with 5 speed conversion and type 8 primari
Have you got a picture that shows where you mean for machining? I want to do a dry fit to look for anything like that, but a pointer would be helpful :) The cover for this aperture: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--m-nvIOyPgM/TuTIdUmnvBI/AAAAAAAABug/af7BzwhXbdE/s640-Ic42/DSCF9529.JPG Do US model...

Chillcast box with 5 speed conversion and type 8 primaries
Hi All, been a bit quiet recently with Saab life due to family, but finally getting around to doing a build of something hopefully a bit special. I've only ever rebuilt so far - no conversions. Basic list of parts is: 79 Chillcast main case with 1992 front case. New 9.35 final drive/crown assy As ne...

Re: Emergency ! 78 turbo, fuel pump removal!
The intake screen boot is a non-issue as one from a plastic tank can be used. It's the sleeve between the pump and the bayonet cap that could be a real nightmare.

Pretty sure it's the regular unthread direction, so anti-clockwise.
I did try using a hammer and chisel but the metal is quite soft so I ended up doing a bit of damage, but it did work.

Re: Bearing on primary drive cover , c900/99
I believe you can just leave the bearing off assuming there's the depth in the front plate.
The bearing was only used on turbos for a year or two.

Think I've got a non turbo one somewhere. Keep meaning to see if it's any good on a turbo and if not it will be available.
