not sure how I'd feel about riding in a car with an aluminum roll cage. My rally car has all the plates welded in it from where the aluminium cage was. Considering the welds on the replacement cage I'd almost prefer the alu one! Fantastic project Luke- Groo told me about it and I had to check in to...
I have an 85 block with 85 pistons and an 86 head on it currently. Never determined the actual compression ratio but it is noticeably lower then with the 85 head on it. according to the information I have all 16v turbos in 1985 used 8v turbo blocks and pistons, 8.5:1 CR. They made the extra compres...
Ok, gotcha. Yeah, that would be a good thing to do. What kind of weight are saab rally cars coming in at these days? I have no idea how much my 99 weighed. the green machine weighed 2490 coming out of tech at tall pines IIRC, fueled, ready to rally. the new one is 2500, with all regular glass. ther...
My ex-works 900 has had this done. Both the control arm mounts and the ball joints have been modified to do what I can only assume is this. I was talking to some Swedish guys at one of the conventions about front end setup and they said a way to cheat is to swap the mounting blocks, front on the rea...

Call me and let's hook up.

cool. need a place to stay 10 minutes from the track?
Is there any reason to form a "Shelby Collective" (for lack of a better term) and pool purchasing/storing/painting/use rights? I for one am on the hunt for 'em...I know Per is...Luke, Geoff, etc. Not sure if Jazzy James is running early style hubs...Groo probably won't. I sure don't like ...

Yeah the rational side of me keeps thinking that I'lll build a 900 but these 99's are so so tossable, rugged and fun. I think both cars make good rally cars. Advantages of a 99: 1 Lighter 2)More rigid chassis/strength especially in the front end 3)better tossability Advantages of a 900: 1)better st...
I think I've only toasted one Shelby. The saab minilites seemed pretty bulletproof too. Never bent a soccer ball. The issue is that the Shelby's seem to be getting harder and harder to find. And certainly withing the "community" impossible to wrench out of folks hands! :D I do know of a s...
On a related subject, Seth and I have been talking about a third bearing to support the clutch input shaft. A new, longer, shaft would have to be made and the bearing and bearing housing would have to go where the little steel for the clutch shaft is. We're pretty sure this is how the works trannie...
James, Very interested in seeing the homologation papers! If you get a chance to scan or just photo copy them I'd love to take a look. I heard that you were unable to get a logbook because of your cage. What was the issue they were having with it? Rally America just announced that all new cages mus...
We did the spring towers and some other critical areas on the old car, very small amount really. On the new car there is evidence of stitch welding on just about every seam visible, I think they went through the whole shell.
Keep in mind that Luke is removing weight from the most important area- the front of the car. On a nose heavy car like the 99 or 900, it helps most up front. With the new rally car I am paying a lot of attention not to overall weight but to weight distribution. On the old car we moved as much as pos...
