Did not see that coming. One more for the wrench chronicles.

Re: Multiple Saab woes, its been awhile

Scott, The pilot bearing is in the center of the flywheel. If you pop the round transfer chain cover, put the gearbox in neutral and block the clutch pedal to the floor with a section of broom handle or other prop, you should be able to turn that upper sprocket with a large pair of right angle snap ...

Re: Multiple Saab woes, its been awhile

On the clutch problem, it sounds like a seized/sticky pilot bearing? Don't recall that being a common problem on the 900, but if you have good hydraulics, and the friction disc isn't rusted to the flywheel, or soaked with gear oil, there aren't many options left. Bearing degradation would also accou...

Re: Winter Tires

I've had 'cheap' snows that weren't much better than all seasons, even with studs. I'm a few years behind on the tech, but the studded Nordman 5 I used last winter were/are a lot better than the studded Nordman 4 I had previously. ( 185/65/15 on c900t). To the extent that driving in the snow is now ...

Re: 75 99 build

Anyone have a great thread build for the requirements for the addition of the bigger engine and turbo.

Wouldn't call it a great thread, but this is what I did a number of years ago.

Re: Metal Working Tools

Re:Lathe. I run a South Bend 13" 'tool room', and a #3 Warner & Swasey turret. I don't think I'd want anything smaller than the South Bend, unless I was doing lots of small parts. That was a popular machine in its time, so there are still many available. I might have bought something else h...

Re: Metal Working Tools

Here's a brief discussion on the HF version of the Beverly. A few other threads as well if you do a search under 'beverly shear'. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/beverly-shear.949455/ I'd suspect the Woodward Fab and Baileigh versions are more or less the same as the HF. The real deal isn...

WTB/Timing kit '91 9000

Has anyone got a source, or a spare timing kit for a 1991 9000? (sliders, guides, sprockets, chains, tensioner etc)

I'm asking on behalf of a tech coming up empty from his usual sources.
Thanks.

Re: Twin Scroll Turbo

Nice work there on 'Project Zoidberg'. Maybe load the end of the tube with steel shot, then preheat? Your test sections are short enough that they may not behave at all like the actual header tubes. Have done a few torch braze repairs on broken/split/warped castings, and will often pack t...

Re: Metal Working Tools

I have a nice 36" 16ga Pexto jump shear found on Craigslist. I think I swapped a small Di-acro shear and some cash. They come up frequently around here, but you definitely want to make sure the blades are in good shape, as sending those in for a grind was several hundred last I checked. The rea...

Vertical mill and drum/rotor lathe

FMC combo drum/rotor lathe. Came with a package deal, surplus to my needs. Could use some cleaning and fiddling, (the half nut for the rotor out feed is spinning in its mount). Includes cutting tools for rotor and drum, arbor nuts, and probably a few cones/spacers. Arbor is standard 1". Fairly ...

...Come from the land of the ice and snow

...AKA New England in a good winter. Me&78-99t.jpg How did it all get started, this involvement with Saab? I’ll blame it on my brother. Soon after he got his license, he decided that he wanted a 900T. Why? I really don’t know. I think he found one through either the Want AD publication or the ne...
