Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
Hell hath frozen over........Loki appears to be running right. I walked away for a couple of weeks in depression, but I headed back out. After pulling a load or stuff off I"d already replaced or checked. I re-re-re-checked it was OK, dangling the intercooler upside down for 3 days to make sure ...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
ECU Ground, Battery ground cable Hmm, well it should be good, but it's worth double checking. Good battery? YEs, new gel cell battery kept on a battery tender all the time so it's 100% ready to go regardless of the state of the charging system. Alternator charging properly? HAven't checked, but the...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
Just got back from the post office, I must have just made the deadline or something because they said it should be there on monday. Hopefully this is the final hump to getting the car running! :luke: Sir you are a star. Unfortunately no change. Suns kinda sorta in limp home with no MAF. Barely runs...

Damn, I've run out of Lucas smoke, I'll get some more next time I'm back in England :bawl: :bawl: :bawl: http://www3.telus.net/bc_triumph_registry/images/Smokekit2.jpg OK, here's another pic of the guts. Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
BTW, it's not a Bosch MAF, it's an aftermarket one https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9FuPNjGgwLw/VRR3VK4HNUI/AAAAAAAAdjw/CxiQzoiKF3c/s512/IMG_20150326_171343096.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6Nf-tO4q68o/VRR3cvdEB-I/AAAAAAAAdj8/KgKUw2PIjsA/s800/IMG_20150326_171404921.jpg

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
Major vacuum leaks and major intake leaks can cause all the problems you have described too. That was my first assumption, not found them. Also if it were just an air leak somewhere why would it behave differently with the MAF connected and disconnected FYI, the only good way to check the cat that ...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
OK, so as I said last night, I removed the exhaust and it ran the best it's run in over a year. I could actually drive it around the subdivision without slipping the clutch or a bucking bronco impression. When I got back I figured I'd try it with the MAF unplugged again per Drew's suggestion. Guess ...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
Quick update. Remove the exhaust and it runs fairly well at idle, light and medium throttle. Success thinks I. So I think I'll unplug the MAF and try that. Opps its still unplugged from last night. Plug it in and it will barely run at all and stalls. Check the exhaust I removed and it seems perfect,...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
OK, we may or may not be on something. I told my wife I was popping into the garage for 20 mins, two and a half hours later I'm back inside. I thought I'd try the exhaust first as it would be easier to unplug the MAF when hot than the exhaust! So, one bolt comes off with heat, one shears off and the...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
Good call on the exhaust / cat being plugged Crazyswede. Adrian, the super easy way to check that is to loosen the three nuts that hold the downpipe onto the cast elbow and let the pipe separate a little big and go for a drive. Give it like 1/4" of clearance. It'll be noisy, but if that's what...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
What does it do if you try to drive it with the air mass meter unplugged? Battery was flat last night  Will let you know tonight. Your exhaust could be plugged I really don’t’ think so, but I could check Here is an offer for you. Hang it on a tow dolly and bring it to me in Penna. Let it ...

Re: Project Loki - 1988 classic SAAB turbo
Progress without moving forward. Wow, so I finally got some time in the garage this weekend. Fixed the brakes on eldest daughters 2001 MDX, slider pins corroded solid so it took twice as long as it should, but I did get a solid 4+ hours on the Saab, the first and last chunk of which were clearing th...

Re: Thoughts on 944 intercooler?
That is an odd size. CLosest I've found so far is a Mini Cooper, but that has oval shaped inlets and outlets that could be hard to find. 17"x6"x3"

Re: BMR rallyX pics
Yeah, I was the only one with proper Saab rally wheels http://www.mikevaninophotography.com/uploads/2/6/3/6/26367236/4632083_orig.jpg I also happened to place the highest. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. I haven't done a full stud inspection either, but I don't think I lost any, though the front...
