Re: Winter Challenge Rally

Couple of great improvements for C900's that live and play in New England: SPG springs with spacers: maintain approximate stock ride height but with a much stiffer spring. Car will handle better and hardly ever bottom out when the road gets bouncy. Decent shocks: We always ran the Bilstein HD's S&am...

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

Great to hear it went well and good to represent the Brand. Somehow that event always aligns perfectly with exciting weather and road conditions.

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

No needed for studded snow tires. I stopped buying Nordmann and Nokia snow tires a few years ago when I found the General Artimax Artic tires worked just as well and were almost half the price. If your snow tires you have now are in the last 25% of their tread life you might have some problems. Reco...

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

why is your navigator back pedaling? If we've painted it as too much of a crazy event the best advice I have is dont worry about it and just go run the event. Don't worry about anything other than following the route, the indicated speeds, and staying on the road. Even if you max out every section y...

Re: Fuel pump problems??? 1973 SAAB 99LE F.I.

If you ever get tired of the Djet and not a stickler for keeping it 100% original you could swap it over to LH injection. The LH injectors work nicely in the D jet manifold and all the components mount easily enough. The LH harness and computer are also a nice contained system so its mostly a manner...

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

Often you will get a short pause of 5 or 10 when coming to a stop sign or one way bridge etc. Don't pause if you dont have to. it will take you more than 5 seconds to come to a stop and get moving again. The only the pauses you might want to wait a little bit for are if its 30 seconds or more and yo...

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

From the NER road rally rule book: http://www.ner.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/rrregs_2015_v1-0.pdf transit zone A part of the timed rally route in which there are no timing controls and in which no specific speed need be maintained. Either an exact time for passage, or a restart time from the end...

Looks pretty good for $1200. Not a fan of the later headlights but that's and easy fix. Wonder what the underside and wheel wells look like. Its an 85 so its an 8v with CIS.

Re: New Safety gear

I think it might depend partially on the seat you are using, your fit in that seat, and how your body is shaped. When I have used the Hans in the past I always found the wider belts were a pain to get in place and it felt like they wanted to move out on me. However I also figured out after a while t...

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

Also bring at least one full size spare tire (winter if possible) and consider 2. We have destroyed tires on that event and if all you have is a donut good chance your event will be over.

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

The time between route instructions and starting the route is usually about 1 hour. A few suggestions are to look over all of the instructions and make sure you understand transit zones, quiet zones, etc. Highligh the CAS (Commence average speed) indications. When you stop at a checkpoint the worker...

Re: New Safety gear

The Hans is pricey but should help prevent your neck from serious damage. They don't really impede your head movement too much but do take some getting used to. If/when you need a new harness I suggest getting the one designed for the Hans as it will stay in place much better.

Re: Winter Challenge Rally

And FYI we ran the event every year in a Saab and we won are class every year. We were competing against many AWD cars and did just fine. The event has lots of tricks and traps and it can be really challenging to find the correct road, stay on the route, and even find all of the checkpoints. The ave...
