Re: Rebuilding hydraulic lifters

Gary has head work down to a production line science. I think it took us about 1/2 an hour to do the valve seals & Volvo 240 valve spring upgrade in my T5 head for the hillclimb car.

Re: '74 X7 Turbo rwd -movie time

Nice, your brothers car was cool. I have 3 classic 900 automatics, always a challenge keeping them going... The Turbo 2.1 Liter T5 w/ the te05 turbo / automatic was a great combination, but eventually the trans says "no more of this!" It would make 60MPH inside of 6 seconds with good tires...

Re: C900 gearbox girdle

It most likely did not run low on lubricant. The car does have a trans cooler, but it feeds and returns into the main case. I am rolling it around in my head now and am kind of wondering. My initial thought was that, well maybe, we had tightened those 3 bolts down to friction tight, but they were no...

Re: 900 Turbo headgasket differences

The "kit" for the 88 most likely includes the plastic parts for the oil feed pipes that your 88 has but 89+ does not. IMO, if you are running an 88 or back head those SHOULD be replaced while it's all apart. Was not aware that those alone added $100 to the price.... But they probably shoul...

Re: Gearbox girdle

The TD04 16t on my SPG (hillclimb car) which does see street use has spool up that in my opinion is just as good as a Te05 and probably better than a T3. The only thing with that is it seems to be able to create a LOT of low down torque, especially on a cold day, which probably isn't the best thing ...

Re: Ouch!

I have seen this failure before. Happened in a strong running 87 900 turbo street car that I bought for $300 many years ago. I assumed it was due to a pinion bearing failure at a good speed, but I did not know this 1st hand.

Re: What did you do to/with your SAAB today?

I'm not exactly sure if this applies to "What did you do to your Saab today" But it's Saab related... About 2 weeks ago some guy in a motorhome who wasn't watching his tail-swing clipped the 2010 9-5, he tagged the rear bumper and busted the tail light and the light bar. He had insurance a...

Re: New Hampshire Lemons race

Great pics, I think the one of the 91 coming in was just after the trans bit the dust. Neither car finished this weekend "without a scratch" but then again nothing major. I think the eeuro car got tagged right rear by someone, and someone got our left front. Nothing significant on either c...

Re: New Hampshire Lemons race

My feeling is that if we wanted to run a slower car with dead reliability, we should use a Diesel Mercedes, not a classic 900... I really like the 900 in every other respect than the trans, We can make this thing reliable & have the power, but it's not going to be free, that's for sure... But I ...

Re: New Hampshire Lemons race

Kip is an awesome driver, no doubt about that. I sure felt bad that you didn't get any seat time aside from practice day :-( I do have high hopes for next year though, maybe we could even take it to a few hills or autoX's if we get it back together this winter.
