Re: Engine Rebuild Stand
That's really nice work on the engine stand ! And that BMW build looks really nice also. SAAB question ? Are you still using the S& R 4 speed gear set in the black car. I seem to remember , you had 1 failure of some sort? MY S & R box has done like 24 hill climb events and the only issue was...

Re: Lot of C900 transmissions for sale at scrap metal price
If I remember correctly , a 5 speed gear box is about 120 pounds. So @ .50 cents pound that's $60.00 each X 60 units = $3600.00 So 120 pounds X 60 units + 7200 pounds. So you need $3600 + gas money and a car trailer and a bunch of big ratchet straps. Then Bill needs to have a fork lift to help load ...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
How about some advice on an EGT gauge and sensor location. If I was to put an EGT on "RED" were is the best/ proper location on the exhaust. Before the turbo, after ? I was going to only spring for one sensor at this point. Getting a bit more serious about tuning tools and this looks right...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
OK Dennis, I like your example. Just went and stared at the car and I can see that if I modify the upper cooling hose location some , I could improve on the piping. I notice that you have afan on the right side and have the compressor outlet almost vertical. I don't have that fan and have my compres...

That tubing off the compressor is killing me. Let me see what I have for spares.
Dennis what is killing you about the compressor tubing / Is it the run from the compressor into the intercooler? Always looking for constructive criticism, so let it fly.

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
Well I finally put all the pieces together and put the motor and the 4 speed S& R non synchro gear box back in RED. Raining like crazy here so no road testing. I had the S & R box in the car last month with an older so -so motor so I could get a feel for it. The motor has the forged lite rod...

Re: Rebuilding hydraulic lifters
OK Jon, here are my methods and tricks for head work. (1) I use a head holder stand as shown in photo, It allows me to swivel it all around and work from all sides and stand comfortably. (2) I use a clamp type spring compressor with an old factory tool to compress the springs. Note I use a blue slee...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
Finally got my pistons back from Swain Tech coatings. The second photo shows the grayish white ceramic top coat that is about .003 thick. keeps the piston much cooler. the other photo shows the skirt coating that keeps scuffing down to almost ZERO. that coating is about .0008 thick , so adds about ....

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
do you mind me asking how much the pistons were? Pistons with pins , and a custom ring set was $752.00 to my door. If you want pistons made, you the buyer needs to do some calculations for the manufacturer, and you better double check your measuring and math. The skirt coatings and the piston top h...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
Good looking stuff and work. Can you post the p/n of the Moulnar con rod and/ or the Toyota application? Dennis the Molnar rods fit a Toyota Molnar lists it as a 2ZR-FE 2.4 L. Anyway the parts number was TH5315AJNB4-A @ 403.82. I shopped around for distributors and paid about $384.00 and free shipp...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
--Oil feed is easy (Do you run a restrictor btw?)
Yes they recommend a restrictor for oil flow. And I use a ford type 5 bolt cover with a 3 " V band. Still use an internal waste gate door in the 5 bolt cover.
Sounds like you are fully covered for installation. Like you say just need to money.

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
IF you buy a GT28 and replace your Mitsubishi TE-05, I guarantee you will scare yourself the first time you put your foot down. Go on you tube and type in Gary Reider. I think there is still a bunch of in car video from hill climbs. watch some and you will see how the car just pulls. The conversion ...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"
[quote="Krizzie"]94mm, that's 2.2L or so? What power are we looking at here? With the existing T-5 , larger intercooler and 3 inch exhaust and the GT 28 RS ball bearing turbo, I think I can make 250 @ the wheels and could probably make 300. Mostly I want a more bullet proof Short block , s...
