Re: breaks up @ 3000 rpm's

The TPS adjustment with an ohm meter in the service manual makes my brain hurt, though that's not uncommon with me and electrical systems. I'm more the nut and bolt guy. Here's a bit from a friend of mines post on saabnet for confirming a correct TPS adjustment "Refer to your servive manual for...

Re: Saab B motor valve adjustment questions

Back in the day when we had a shop, we did all of them on the car, but that didn't necessarily mean the car was at operating temp. The big orange book doesn't mention doing it with a warm engine, but as mentioned, things tighten up when warm. The book even has a section of how to do it on the bench ...

Re: breaks up @ 3000 rpm's

I'm sure there are a few here who parted d-jet cars with no intention of ever running d-jet in their future. I still have a d-jet car, so getting rid of good fuel injection parts you can't buy anymore could be counter-productive for me. Back when I had lots of money, hopping in the 900 to drive 9 ho...

Re: breaks up @ 3000 rpm's

I was wrong about fuel pressure if you decide to check it - 28psi is the correct number. 31 would probably foul out your plugs. I know I have a brand new TPS somewhere, which I paid a pretty penny for. I think I also have a few I bought off ebay which are used, and are of unknown condition. I have t...

Re: breaks up @ 3000 rpm's

If you do investigate the TPS, you could pop the cover off and inspect the terminals - make sure none of the arms are bent or contacts are burnt. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v226/dougsaab/TPS_guts.jpg For reference you could try setting it where mine is - my car runs great at all rpms. Sorry I...

Re: breaks up @ 3000 rpm's

I'm also going to admit that I've owned at least one d-jet 99 since 1986, and I can name on one hand the problems I've had with the system, so there's not a lot of experience troubleshooting. Most of the parts on my 73 are the same ones from the car I bought in '86. One was the timing chain tensione...

Re: breaks up @ 3000 rpm's

I don't know anything about pertronix to comment if that is the problem. I find it hard to believe that all the timing adjustments you have played with, that your car still has a problem, so I would tend to believe that is not your problem - it should run great at 13btdc unless...is the chain tight?...

Re: Steering rack bushing

FYI, here's a post about making the bushing in bronze which a guy named Terry posted Sept 2011 on Saabnet. I just had the steering rack on my 1977 99 EMS rebuilt using a bronze guide bushing that I made myself. Making the bush was tedious but not too difficult. The guide bushing is the nylon piece t...

Re: Steering rack bushing

I had a piece of 1" PVC in the garage, but it will not work - too sloppy. My next option was to go to the basement and locate another rack. I found an early style and two later ones. I removed the boots and attempted to remove the bushing, but it seemed more than likely I would destroy it. Only...

Re: Spring Compressor?

I used a Harbor Freight $40 strut compressor and was able to remove two sets and reinstall both. I wouldn't say it was easy, as I had to take it apart to get the arms on the springs in the right places. If the span isn't enough, then you can't compress the spring enough to remove or install it. I ev...

Re: Steering rack bushing

The bushing measures out at 1" ID and 1.355 OD. I think I'll go to HD and see what they have. One inch ID would seem to be a standard on PVC pipe.

Re: Steering rack bushing

I used to chat over at saabnet every day for almost ten years. There used to be a saab owner/tech from Finland named Kalle who would pop in on occasion, though he hasn't chatted in years. I mentioned one day that I needed a d-rubber, so I sent him $20 and he sent me the rubber. Supposedly 8-10 years...

Re: Steering rack bushing

I thought maybe I could run down to Home Depot to the plumbing dept and pick up a piece of PVC and make my own. Instead of putting tabs on it and splitting it so it can be installed, I thought maybe use short screws to hold it in place. I'd reuse this one, but after the blood the car drew from me la...

Steering rack bushing

It's been months since I had the failure coming back from Carlisle, so I decided to pull the rack out of the 73 tonight. Right side rack bushing broke the three tabs off that hold it in place and it slipped out of place as I was driving. I thought about reusing it, but the plastic also had enough cr...
