Re: Rally Suspension project

You can make a spring rate tool pretty simply. Just need a lever, some weights or a strain gage and a ruler or measuring tape

Re: Rally Suspension project

I remember geoff had his driver side inner cv pop out of the inner driver during a rally cross years ago at Okemo. It was a combination of lots of power during a full lock turn and suspension compression. Needless to say it made a mess and made for a long afternoon and evening to get a tow and fix i...

Re: Rally Suspension project

I think luke modified the metal under the upper a arm to allow for more droop. I also remember at one point he had limiting straps on the a arms...but I dot remember which iteration that was.

Re: Rally Suspension project

Wonder if there is enough room/clearance on the lower A arm and hub/tire to run a second shock on the front of the A arm. **** Probably cheaper to spend a little more on a set of remote reservoir shocks the hydraulic bump stops are what a lot of the desert race trucks and buggies run. They have a sm...

Re: Rally Suspension project

Yeah I remember the front of Lukes car was pretty close to stock as far as droop and compression went, I believe the rear had a ton of droop....I feel like the rear had 9" of travel?

Re: Rally Suspension project

You could go to a double eyelet style shock and move the mount up into the engine bay tower with a cross bolt. That would make life a lot easier if changing shocks was needed. one easy to reach cross bolt vs trying to get at two top nuts or working in the wheel well where rocks and mud can smash th...

Re: Rally Suspension project

Its been a while but the limitations as I recall come in the form of how far the ball joints will move without interference, the axle will hit the body, the tire will hit the inner fender, etc. Lukes latest revision on the coil over suspension had a lot of travel but with most of it in droop....kind...

Re: Rally Suspension project

I believe Luke wanted to switch to remote reservoir shocks and we had also done some research on hydraulic bump stops for the car Geoff now has. I believe the Bilsteins are https://www.bilstein.com/us/en/product/bilstein-b8-5160/ The guys who ran the old Beetle had pretty tricked out suspension fron...

Re: Rally Suspension project

I was playing around with some ideas for running a coil over spring but leaving the shock in the stock location. There are these circle track parts emulate a coil over but dont have a shock portion. they allow you to run the coil over springs and adjust the preload but have only a guide rod. I think...

Re: Rally Suspension project

Hi Mike, Luke had a couple iterations of suspension as he worked through the issues. The shell that Geoff has is the latest iteration with the reinforced upper A arms, the coil over mounting brackets, and the Jaguar ball joints. The silver car that Luke kept is back in the stock 99 suspension config...

Re: 130 Amp Alternator

I sourced a 130A alternator (NG900, OG9-3, 9-5 unit) to try and make work on my c900. As I posted earlier, my car currently has the stock 80A alternator on it. For comparison's sake I borrowed a 70A c900 alternator from a friend to see what I'd need to 'convert' the 9-3 alternator to work on a c900...
