Re: S&R Gearset

Yes, I'll just use the old ones unless someone knows where to buy new.

Re: S&R Gearset

The old primary bearing had a depth of 21mm. I can only find 30x40x20mm bearings, any issue with a slightly shallower bearing? Is this what you used Luke?

Re: S&R Gearset

Im planning to bring the case to a machine shop next week, and will try and order the bearings before hand.

One other question is what chains will work. I have a new set of 5 speed ones, but Im not sure if the length on those will work. They seem just slightly shorter.

Re: S&R Gearset

I had found an online Porsche site that had the correct bearing listed as 2 in stock. That was bearing number 083311133 They had a 75$ minimum order, so I ordered the 2 and then another random bearing and some bolts to make up the difference. I received the package yesterday and it only had the rand...

Re: S&R Gearset

Also, any thoughts on using a needle bearing with a closed outer cage for the cluster shaft? I've found some of that style, but not any completely open cage ones. The measurements I have for them are 28mm x 20mm x 20mm (OD,ID,depth)

Re: S&R Gearset

Im currently having the new box worked on but still need a couple parts. Does anyone have a source or part number for the correct cluster shaft needle bearings? And I also need a new lower primary case bearing.

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs

More work done. Started getting a heater core back into the car. I originally had the stock one installed, but removed it at one point and it never got re-installed, partly because it was big and got in the way. It is nice to have one though when its a bit colder or especially if its raining. The ne...

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs

For the fuel lines the plan is to remove the fuel pump from the stock assembly and just have a tube pickup inside there. Then I'll use a little bit of the stock lines and then have 8mm barb to -6AN adapters. I've been told this type of setup works fine, as long as you don't put the fuel pumps really...

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs

I ordered pumps for a late 90's 12 cylinder merc from eEuroparts!, they were priced well and should provide plenty of fuel for my needs.

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs

If you find that tubing works that would be good to know. Worked today on a shoe box so I can move to dual external fuel pumps. I struggled for a few minutes when I first tried to weld the sides together, and then realized I had forgotten to switch the welder over to AC. https://lh5.googleuser...

Looks good, its always nice when you can get a timely return on your equipment cost. Have you had a chance to spend a night in the sleeper yet?

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs

I personally would try to avoid the use of a shoulder bolt. Shoulder bolts have a sharp transition from the threaded shank to the smooth portion of the bolt. This creates a stress riser when the bolt is used in shear or bending such as the ring gear. You might be better off using a sleeve that is s...

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs

Slowly getting things done on the car. First off I ordered a quaife which has arrived. I also ordered some shoulder bolts that might work to adapt the 4 speed ring gear to the larger bolt holes in the diff. A couple dimensions were not listed for the bolts though, if they don't work I will look at g...
