Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs
I wanted to go up to TON for the day but I can't make it that weekend. I hope they'll end up doing some more of these! As do I, it should end up being very similar to a hill climb, but with gravel. I hope the SCCA program ends up being successful, and can find more locations. I still have a stock 5...

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs
I've finally had a chance to get back into the garage and do some work on the hill climb car. Im planning to shake things up a bit this year and am doing the Team Oneil SCCA rally sprint as my first event. With that in mind I need to make some changes to the car for the gravel. Im undecided on what ...

Re: WTB: Used rally tires?
I have some used Lassa rally tires that I would be interested in parting with, but they are the big 205/65/15's. The rub a little on a 900 over bumps. I also could get more used tires in smaller sizes, price dependent on condition, anywhere from $20 a tire and up. Not sure when/how to get them to yo...

Re: Mount Washington Hillclimb - 2014
Yeah, the length of Mt Washington is one thing that makes it unusual. In the normal New England hill climb series the shortest course is 1 mile and the longest is 3.6. The majority are between 2-3 miles like mongo said.

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs
it looks like the kind of part that a machine shop could mill out of a chunk of aluminum for you relatively easily. I thought about that, and I am planning to bring one to the machine shop I work next to and see what they think it would be cost wise. The box is a 79, so that would fit those using a...

It is definitely aluminum. Did the later 4 speeds have aluminum ones?

Re: Building a 900 for hillclimbs
I had transmission issues at Burke this weekend. Last night I pulled the side covers and it looks like the Pionion housing is now in two pieces. I drove the car for a pretty short distance after feeling something wrong, and the gear oil looked ok, so hopefully there wasn't to much damage to anything...

Re: Mount Washington Hillclimb - 2014
Stock 4 speed ring an pinion. with the 31/30 primary. My rev limiter is set a few hundred rpms higher than a stock T5 ecu and I tend to use all of that. It works well with the turbo motor. Getting off the line was the only issue. Before the event I did try launching once with my direzza street tires...

Re: Mount Washington Hillclimb - 2014
Ok. First gear is tall, but its easy to deal with around the pits etc. I never did figure out how to launch it though. But wants you get moving off the line it is great. You can see in the video I used first around the hairpin type corners. It is definitely a usable gear. The shifting during around ...

Re: Mount Washington Hillclimb - 2014
Thanks guys. It was a great weekend. The new gearbox was so much fun, more on that later. It was fun getting the attention of some of the other guys in H2 during practice, and then not being too far off the pace Sunday was nice as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu5OXZB2a-g&feature=youtube...

Re: S&R Gearset
Good tip on the gaskets. I'll probably use 518 this time, but Ill keep that in mind for future transmissions etc. The transmission is together though. Im going to put a couple covers on myself, other than that it just needs oil! Headed to pick it up after work tomorrow. :luke: :woohoo: Looking to ha...

Re: S&R Gearset
Thank to Jordan for getting those chains out quickly. The cluster shafts bearings came in and are correct and I also received a bearing for the primary that will work. I think we have a machine shop that will do the machining by tomorrow, so hopefully it will be ready to go this week. One last minor...

Re: S&R Gearset
Id really like to have it in for Mt washington in a couple weeks. If I had chains before the end of the week it could maybe be done this weekend which would leave some chance to drive the car around. If you find any that would be awesome and very helpful. Im also not doing the transmission work, so ...

Re: S&R Gearset
Thanks for checking that Jordan. If you can get some from Saab or have a used set I would be interested in either. Id also like to get some new from IWIS if that can eventually happen.
