You mentioned anti balloon reinforcements. What is the flat surface thickness and why not up it a notch to retain the clean visuals? Would look awesome if the welds are ground and the whole thing polished. Excellent work and project! Thanks for the questions. The flat plate is .125 inch thick with ...
Simple bike pump since I did not need much air volume and a nice controlled accent in air pressure. A friend with a dial indicator and magnetic base helped measure the deflection of the flat plate area where we assumed would be the most ballooning. About .045 inched each side. A total of 3/32" ...
Fixtures: T/B cap with fill port and gauge IMG_3686.JPG Back Plate with the rectangular tube. I tried the 1/8" sheet first, but it flexed too much even with three clamps. IMG_3704.JPG Old injector and rail to plug the ports IMG_3706.JPG Topped off with water and ready to cap. Actually let the w...
Happy Easter everyone. Hope you have the chance to spend time with your love ones. Time for an update. Rebuilt the plenum from scratch as I was not happy with the first version's direction. Spent a lot of time on the fitup to make welding easier. Thin material and butt joints can keyhole out in a bl...
The plenum had its first birthday back in November. Time to get jamming and make some progress. Started by working on a design and spending a bunch of money on clamps, flanges, raw pipe and a DBW throttle body. 74mm Bosch DBW unit that will work pretty well with 3" tubing and Wiggins' clamp/cou...
Impressive build. That is a great weight savings for linear/rotation mass. Personalized pistons is the icing on the cake. Welding aluminum casting is always challenging, so I don't blame you. Just depends on the planet alignment.
Thanks Jordan for running thru your experiences. I remember Mezzanine had some flow bench testing done. The guy who owned the machine shop thought the T7 valves were from a motorcycle engine.
I was at Scanwest yesterday and Rob Walden showed me a T5 head with the 7mm stem intake valves (T7) installed. Requires new guides and seals. Drops static compression by 3cc per cylinder. And the skinnier stem for better flow. Any of you hotrodders try this yet? I have a B204 head that I might use a...
Thanks for run down on your project. Great to see some traffic on the forum. Been relying on FB to get my Saab fix, but it lacks depth. As for welders, I can not comment on the lower end stuff and having to move it up and down stairs is very limiting. That said, I have almost always regretted buying...
A bit more fun in the shop tonight. The safety wire, although very functional, looked "Ag" (as in agricultural), as an acquaintance would tag stuff like that. Stepped it up and made a simple saddle with floating nut plate and thru bolt. Got to look the part when it up front and center. IMG...
