Re: Saab 99 2-door plastic gas tank

Pretty sure the 99 sedan plastic tank was one year only, 1980. Dimensionally the same as the '80 900 tank (which also fits 99 hatchbacks) but the filler is on the opposite side.

Re: gear kits

Yeah, good point. I grabbed the info from a spreadsheet I had sitting in my email from a while back when I had measured the gears but I didn't really look at it too close the other day. I edited the post above with the corrected gear ratios and added in the S&R for comparison. Hopefully this ma...

Re: gear kits

Geoff, I think that table is a little misleading the way you have the gear #'s labeled, since the "4th" is really the input gear and the true ratios for 1,2,3 is multiplier of that gear. Also, the input gear should really be 18/16 or 1.125 since its driving power from the main shaft to the...

Re: 90 Talladega SPG

I was thinking about doing a online seminar with some Trionic setup and tuning basics. Does that sound like something a few people would be interested in doing? It's just hard to get together with all of us all spread out. Great idea, you should do the demo on my rally car - preferably on a dyno so...

Re: 90 Talladega SPG

Glad to hear the SPG is being treated so nicely! I hear you (no pun intended) on the exhaust, as I get older I really appreciate the classics in their mostly stock form, while its fun to have a project car where you try different things, its also really nice to get have a reliable nice running class...

Re: gear kits

There are the Davidsson gearsets in Sweden which are like you describe, a true modern dog gearset. I don't know if they are available at the moment, but the price was very good and from what I heard they would make more. I would go in on a group run if the price was around $3K .

Re: Diff Covers - Available soon!

Just a heads up - I have another small batch of these in the works. These tend to sell out pretty quickly, so if you were thinking about picking one up in the near future, there are ten sitting on my welding bench this week and one could have your name on it.

I have done quite a few over the years for people, Cost was about $350 for a modified timing cover and intake manifold if customer supplied usable cores.

Re: New Hampshire Lemons race

While I was hauling the #13 car home , I was thinking maybe a N/A car running in class B would last longer and be " some fun". This past weekend was really fun to be with all the guys and of course the free Italian dinner was great  , but I spent a lot of prep time, hauling time...

Re: New Hampshire Lemons race

Sounds like both teams had great weekend even with the unfortunate gearbox issue. I bet if you look at the cluster gear 4th wasn't far behind. One of reasons I gave up on a turbo motor in a Saab race car. Of course then I found out that the only thing less reliable than a 5 spd trans under a turbo w...

Re: free gearbox case

I think the whole chill cast thing has gotten a bit out of hand, and become more folklore than based on any actual functional difference. The original term that jorgen was using was kokill which derives from the Russian word кокиль. In English we just call this gravity die casting, which is one of m...

Re: 900 Suspension Hardware List, Source and Cad/Yellow Zink

The original SAAB hardware is generally pretty high quality with the exception of the late style ball joint bolts which seem to be made of pot metal ( the early fine thread ones were good, but not plated so by now have become one with the ball joint) There's a local plating shop out here that does a...
