Re: Oil cooler problems?

To clear this issue, the thermostat was faulty so, the oil cooler wasn't doing anything.

After it was replaced, the temps went down to around 80c to 90c depending on how hard I've been flooring it.

Re: Krizzie's white 900 Aero

Hey, the forums live again! Haven't done much to my 900 since my last post. The biggest upgrades are a new intake setup with a GFB dumpvalve and a custom Type 9 primary set. Have to make some new pics from the intake.. :silent: The type 9 (34/22 tooth) https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4471/37360478424...

Re: Oil cooler problems?

Even with 5w40 which I had for 1000km to run in the new block, the temps were high.

10W40 is standard for a B202 here, 10W60 is a bit thicker at higher temperatures than 10w40, not at lower ones. Multiple Saab specialists here recommend 10W60 for tuned engines. (And since mine is tuned.. ;) )

Re: Oil cooler problems?

I use 10W60 cause the engine runs much smoother with it. My (heavyduty) skidplate is miles away from the sender. Also there would be weird signals to the gauge I guess. It just runs hot while not pushing the engine at all.. After 10 km or so the oil starts to warm up, but after 20+ kms it's above 80...

Oil cooler problems?

Recently I've noticed that my engine oil temp (sensor is installed as the drain plug) is quite high. Even with normal cruising it easily hits 100+ degrees Celsius. It doesn't get much hotter than 110c but still. I see other classics do less than 80c when driven normally. I'm running Castrol Edge 10W...

Re: eEuro T5 flywheels

It's not really a failure issue, its the over-sensitivity of the sensor with setup. With these VR sensor setups, the sensor is sort of "matched" to the trigger wheel. The sensor works with magnetic flux, so if the trigger which is generating the flux is out of range of the sensor, it won'...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"

Best is to turn the turbo coldside down, makes the pipes shorter and you don't have sharp bends.

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"

I did some homework for that already. -Water is easy -Oil feed is easy (Do you run a restrictor btw?) -Oil return I have an idea for http://i66.tinypic.com/a2u2rb.jpg -Intake will be full 3", already have the piping and silicone bend for that. -Exhaust will be full 3" with v-band clamp and...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"

How is the GT28RS doing? I'm having that on my upgrade list as well. Probably faster spooling than the stock TE05 and more breath up top (Will be using a full 3" intake and exhaust to minimize restriction) I just got a rebuilt engine with 90.5mm Ross pistons (stock rods) and it revs much happie...

Re: New Hill climb motor for "RED"

94mm, that's 2.2L or so?

What power are we looking at here?

Cool project!

Re: Broken Saab 99 Turbo Pistons – Options?

If one of them is still good you might be able to send it to a piston builder like Ross or Wossner. They can make a forged copy of it which is much lighter and stronger.

Re: Krizzie's white 900 Aero

Gave it a good clean today! (been a few months..) Usually you freeze to death here in this time of year, but it was like an early spring day today, so a good time to remove the layer of dirt and salt! http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae116/Krizzie88/Saab%20900%20Turbo/DSC_0315_zpskbnehe5u.jpg

Re: Krizzie's white 900 Aero

It's no problem, I'll return it and get a refund.

Maybe in the future when I get a rebuilt box I will install the right one.

Re: Krizzie's white 900 Aero

Picked it up last weekend, I'm so happy I can drive again! :yay: (It's my only car) The new engine feels so light on the throttle, it revs so happy (not higher than 3500rpms and low boost for the first 1000 miles or so.. ) but pulls really well, even when the turbo isn't spooling it feels very torqu...

Re: Krizzie's white 900 Aero

Thanks for the info!

If you can do those things at home and can spare a diff or two (in case you mess up) it would be a good try. But I can't do this at home and have to pay for it, so I rather not mess things up here. :silent:

None of this was planned so it's costly enough already. :bawl:
