Re: Ghetto 16v rally motah
Ok. So I probably have the timing set too low right now. 16deg BTDC at idle with the vac plugged...and vac adv is not hooked up at all. So that's static and not advancing at all. Hmmm, I will hook it up and see how it drives with some adv...prob a bit sharper response. Brother David thinks the EZK w...

Re: Ghetto 16v rally motah
Not using the EZK...yet. I wanted to get it running first. I think I remember the turbo distributers had a funky advance...couldn't remember if it was vac adv only or had mech adv too. 6's are what I was thinking...7's are pretty cold. The surging doesn't feel like a vacume issue..but I guess it cou...

Re: Ghetto 16v rally motah
Hey all. With much, MUCH help from a number of you, especially Jordan, the 16v LH2.4.2/bosh solid state ignition motor is running. Quite well. Couple of questions. I have an 87 16v t distributer in there set to about stock 16v NA timing. which I think is 16 btdc. it's vac line is plugged. Good. Bad....

Re: Ghetto 16v rally motah
Ok, that helps. On the cyl head though...isn't that going to mess up the cam timing if I mill it?

Ghetto 16v rally motah
Hey guys- So, compression on the 8v is low across all four...and even lower in the center two. I could pull, rebuilt, replace...but I hate CIS so much I'm motivating myself to do a 16v. No, not the ITB/MegaSquirt/high compression/solid lifter 16v of my Viagra-fueled wet dreams...unfortunately. I nee...

Re: '73 Notchback Road Racer
Nice parts gram Drew. Tom used to be an east coast guy...ran with some of the local Saab loonies back in the day...before my time. He's spread his Saab stuff around this board quite liberally. The 900 is sitting on shocks/springs from his stash. Funny storry, he brought them back to the east coast o...

Re: 16V NA motor question
It's been a while since I drove a 16v NA...and I've never fiddled with one. Does the EZK let you play with static timing at all? If you can does it help add any more powah? Are these things just gutless lumps begging to be driven by grey haired school marms?

Re: 16V NA motor question
ok, just re-read my question...I wasn't too clear. What I want to do is find a doner 16v NA car, pull the motor out and drop it into the rally car. The rally car has a custom wire harness...no stock wiring left. The 8v cis, with no oxy sensor is for the most part, wire/sensor free. I also have an MS...

16V NA motor question
Does anyone know if the fuel injection on an NA 16v 900 engine has it's own wiring harness? I'm wondering if swapping one into the rally car could be done with very little hacking of the primary wiring...or am I dreaming?

Re: orange rally Saab
Ya beat me to it Luke! I would say that the orange <shell> is gone, but litterally anything that could be unbolted or cut off it was saved. As rally cars tend to do, my silver one has benefited from not only the actual parts of rally cars gone by, but the development and hands on knowledge of the sa...

Re: Strongest Gearbox Possible
Not sure what the ratios are, but I'm sure someone will chime in. I will remind folks that the right ring & pinion ratio are critical to getting out what you put into any sort of "close" gear ratio. Those looking for a stronger gearset so the big horsepower turbo motors don't eat them ...
