You are on the right track cleaning the terminals. Also make sure you use a good quality ceramic fuse not the more common plastic ones which have a habit of melting.

The pump fuse should be 16 amps.

Try replacing the warm-up regulator as this will give pump pressure when cold and make the mixture very lean. Also remove the distributor head and clean the piston this is not a big deal the the seal is only an "O"ring and should not be an issue refitting.(have done hundreds)

That model had an inherant fault in the circurt board.

If the balance chain broke the engine would have a vibration which you could describe as as a harshness.
