Two classic SAAB's are set to compete in 19th running of the New England Firest rally starting on Friday July 16th .
The two day event will feature over 100 miles of tough rally stages and is hosted at Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine.
The team of Sorensen/Jenny have once again entered their 1975 SAAB 99 in Group 5. They are fresh off a class win at STPR in June and excited to be returning to Maine again this year. "The SAAB is particulary well suited to the stages in maine; The roads are rough enough to take full advantage of the SAAB's inherantly tough chassis and suspension" said driver Luke Sorensen.
Also raising a lot of excitment is the return of a North American SAAB rally legend Mike White to the wheel after many years. Mike's well known for his successfull campaign of a 1980 SAAB 99 in the late 90's and he's at it again this time with a well prepared 1984 SAAB 900 entered in Group 2 class.

Got back a little before midnight- pretty exhausted from the weekend. We've got some great stories and pictures from the weekend soon.
Mike and I both finished and set some great times despite some unlucky incidents.

I am not going to recover for at least a week...I'm SPENT!
It was nice to put some more faces with names and avitars.
Luke, you guys did great and despite my attempts, I couldn't match your stage times out there.
We did break a bunch of stuff, but most of that was due to my errors. Jared Lantzy did an awesom job breaking me into stage-note rallying. I gotta tell you, I sure didn't have it all figured out, but every once in a while, when I could keep up with him, it was magic! Knowing that all I had in front of me were 5's and 6's...holy shit! It clearly wasn't all that fast, but it sure did feel like it!!!!!

I saw one google clip of you taking a nice sliding corner off of gravel and into a railing lined bridge. Looked good.

Wow, 2 classic saabs finishing is amazing! Good work, and keep it up.
It was also fun time spectating at this event. The numbers of people there was incredible... I thought there were a lot of people at STPR... and while I did not have an exact count, by my estimations I think there were at least double the amount of spectators here, at least it felt like it. I guess those Mainers all came out of the woods for this There were some solid cheers going on when the "old saabs" went by. Some of the sidebar comments were pretty funny too. I did overhear one fellow say "huu, Saab! wonder what they did to make the trannys stay together!"
Anyway... I'm sure there is some "service" to be done, can't wait to see them both run again together.

I think it's funny that a lot of people have trouble telling the difference between Luke and Mike's cars. They seem to keep mixing them up.

Besides being both Saab's, they are vastly different. I don't know how someone could make that mistake. I could see if they were similar in color, they could blend together.

My yellow 99 has been confused with Geoff's as well but I don't see the similarity.

I think if I painted my car black I could prob start giving Luke a bad rep at some races round here.

That sounds like a good idea!
I kept being accused of being the co-driver and sometimes driver of either of the SAABs (and also the driver of our car). I was thinking "gee, did they associate me with SAABs because of Bruce? Or because I co-drove for Luke once?" Then I realized I have a SAAB patch on my driver's suit.
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off
