Looking for an inexpensive road racing challenge? Real wheel-to-wheel racing for a fraction of the cost of SCCA or NASA.
Take a look at http://chumpcar.com
I am racing a '92 Saab 900S and doing P.R. for the series.
The cost to build our Saab race car was about $2000 over the price of the car ($300), including the roll cage, 6 new tires and a whole lot of new engine, gearbox and suspension parts (at a discount, of course). We borrowed the belts and seat from another race car, and scrounged a lot of used parts for free or very cheap. Split four ways (required at least 4 drivers per car), that was only about $500 apiece.
At a 24 hour race, each driver gets 6 hours of seat time. That's like a whole season of SCCA regional races. And you get to race at night! Shades of 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, or LeMans!
