Mt Washington 2011

Postby airsweden » Sun Dec 05, 2010 10:03 pm

So Who's gonna be there and more importantly, who's gonna drive?

I'm planning on it and really hope I have a car worthy of the adventure put together by then.

I don't always drive a rallycar but when I do, I prefer a SAAB.

I saw they were having something, but it looked like it was going to be fairly exclusive? Have you heard details? Do you need a fully prepared rally car?

I'd love to drive mount washington.

I haven't heard the details on car construction yet.... haven't looked too hard either. I imagine that full cages are gonna be a minimum. Any caged car that has passed tech at a recent rally or hillclimb should be legal in my opinion. Hopefully the organizers see it the same way. I think cost is gonna be a limiting factor... by design. It could be close to $1k just for registration so I've heard. If that's the case, it'll keep out some riff raff, including myself probably.

Who's gonna have a prepped car by then and want's to do it? Even if I can't drive, I want to take the time off to crew or work.

Lets use this thread for updates on actual news... and rumors for the event.

My guess is that VTSC will probably ruin it for the rest of the grass roots crowd. Luke should definitely do it, it's such a historic event.

Well theres also the rally-sprint going on at summit point that weekend, I didnt go last year but supposedly it was some great seat time (2 days on the same circuit of roads, no transits) and the entry was dirt cheap.

What a dilema! That does sound cool too. I've seen the roads at the rally school there... pretty fun looking stuff.

Mt Washington might not be race-able again for a long... time if ever. If there is anyway I can get in on it this year, then I def want to. The $1k entry is just a rumor, I have no idea what it will actually cost but I'm hoping more like $500 or less.

we should get as many Saabs as possible to come to the Vermont winter rally in February too. This is the all night brisk TSD event. Geoff and I have done it every year since they started it and its a blast. I think this will be the 5th or 6th year. The event gets faster the later into the night you get and most years the roads are a real challenge to keep track of and not slide off of.

From what I've heard there will be an entry limit of 100 cars, with 70 of those entries being through invitation.

Even if I could cough up the dough, and was lucky enough to be one of the 30 uninvited guests, I dont think I could make it. Im not 100% sure but I think that weekend Ill be running the Pagoda Hillclimb in Reading Pa. The entry fee there is only 150 bucks, its capped at 100 entrants, but there is an alternate list. In the event of a no show, crash, mechanical failure or any sort of withdrawl, they call the next guy on the list.

Entry/tech information is up on http://www.climbtotheclouds.com
Looks like there will be an open class and two rally classes(2wd and awd), as well as 4 hillclimb classes. To qualify for the hillclimb classes the car needs to have competed in a NEHA event before 2011. The safety regs are pretty straightforward. Entry fee is $850, and will be limited to 70 entries. Entrants will be selected based on:

Previous racing experience & competition record
Previous Mt. Washington Hillclimb experience
Previous general Hillclimb competition experience
Competition vehicle – overall construction, safety, appearance & presentation
