Stafford Springs RallyX 2012

Postby Jordan » Thu Nov 17, 2011 8:45 am

Just saw the NER schedule and the Stafford Springs Rallycross is January 21 and 22. Its a good course , but can get overcrowded if they don't set an entry limit. It's also a one or two day event.

Could be a good group event since its sort of centrally located and only about 45 mins from my house so no one would have to worry about lodging.

I'd have to swap over some springs, make a skid plate and hook up my defroster, but I'd like to give rallycross a shot in my 99.

Anybody interested in going?

That would be a great venue for a Saab Maab event.

We might come down for that, depending on the condition of our road at the time. Last year we'd had so much snow the road was only about as wide as the trailer (and I have to back down the road to get the trailer back into the driveway) so we didn't go. We've done the event a few times. It can get )*&%^ cold standing around outside for two days but some years its also been fairly warm (think mud and ice on the same course! :yay: ). The course tends to be long and smooth so it's not bad for cars with minimal skidplate protection but due to the varying course conditions tire choice can be difficult.

It's actually three events. Two regional events (Saturday & Sunday) and a National event (Saturday afternoon + Sunday morning)

Hot lunch (hehehe) is typically provided both days.
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off :eyebrows:

Stafford Springs is nice. The courses were fun both times I've been, and can be good for some higher average speeds.

I also liked the practice course they have had set up in the past, it really limited the down time spent in staging. I'd probably be down, maybe Id want to put the heater back in the car though....

I only own one set, so tire choice is simple. But the real pain would be the necessity of a heater core replacement.

Any of you skiers want to ski somewhere the day before? I don't know many slopes in the area but if I'm up there I'd like to get my skiing on.

I probably won't run the viggen as it's too low (and too powerful for the open diff in the snow) and the 900 is hibernating but it seems like it would be fun to watch.

Did I ever give you back your plug-in heater? I haven;t come across it, but that doesn't mean it didn't land somewhere...

I need to plumb in the heater unit I got as well, but might as well have some motivation to do it....I have a set of really busted rally tires or some snows, I'm actually hoping it won't be too cold and snowy since it tends to slow down the event a lot. My car is no longer registered so I'd need to trailer it, so I could throw in plenty of spares/supplies for others.

Not very many good slopes around here. You have to hit southern VT for it to be worth it IMO.

Don't worry about it. I had 2 of them.

I have to put a heater core in the truck too. Im really dreading that. Reading that its 12 hours of labor. The whole dash needs to come out. The same for the saab, but the cage has to come out too.

With a potentially expiring transmission, i should tow too.

Ha. Well driveway parking may be limited, but the lot across the street is now pretty much vacant. So it should work out OK.

Still haven't done anything to prepare for this, but its coming up in a couple of weeks. No snow in the forecast for the time being.

I can't see it happening for me. Still have not found a trailer to haul it up north, and the racing fund jar only has a few coins in it at the moment. I would love to come up there and beat the snot out of the tan 86, but....

I signed up for Sunday. Pascal will be there both days and I saw Kim Moncrief signed up with a buddy...maybe with Josh's old '86. Saturday looks like maybe snow but Sunday will warm up...so the question is snows or rally tires?

Put one option on the back, and one on the front... swap for conditions.
