New England SAAB Run - May 19th 2012

Postby Cark » Tue Apr 17, 2012 7:58 am

Trying to generate some interest here. There are a lot of people in New England anxious for all sorts of different get togethers, so hopefully we can all combine forces and get a great cruise in! It's been a long time since I've been on a cruise, so I'm really hoping to get this off the ground.

When - Saturday May 19th, 2012 9-ish AM

Where - Exit 23 off of I-93 in NH, smack dab in the middle of the state

Who - I won't exclude anyone, but would really love to see as many SAABs as possible. Don't have one? I'm sure we can set people up with rides in a SAAB!

The route I had started planning years ago just while out for a drive. It's evolved over the years and has some really nice windy roads, lots of lake views, and a few very scenic spots. Total mileage is almost exactly 100 miles. I plan to do 50 miles in the morning, then have an hour or so for lunch at a nice scenic area. Then in the afternoon we'll do the other 50, with plans for 2 stops (15-30 minutes) for photos, 1 of which could be extended for popping hoods and showing off.

Hopefully the responses pour in and we can all look forward to a great day of SAABing. I think this can be a great alternative for those of us that don't have the time and/or $ for a trip to Carlisle and a great way to kick off a summer of SAAB action!

Hopefully this link to the route works:http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=US+Post+Office,+15+NH+Route+132+N,+New+Hampton,+NH+03256,+US&daddr=Winona+Road,+Meredith,+NH+to:rt+3+and+rt+132+ashland,+nh+to:rt+3+and+rt+175+ashland+nh+to:Blair+Bridge,+Campton,+NH+to:quincy+rd+rumney+to:Halls+Brook+Road,+Groton,+NH+to:Sculptured+Rocks,+Groton,+NH+to:43.6470119,-71.7868781+to:shore+dr,+Bristol,+NH+to:north+Road,+Alexandria,+NH+to:Cass+Mill+Road,+Alexandria,+NH+to:Ragged+Mountain+Resort,+Ragged+Mountain+Road,+Danbury,+NH+to:Murray+Hill+Road,+Hill,+NH+to:811+s.+main+st+bristol+nh+to:Old+Bristol+Rd,+New+Hampton,+NH+to:US+Post+Office,+15+NH+Route+132+N,+New+Hampton,+NH+03256,+US&hl=en&ll=43.653466,-71.701584&spn=0.371612,0.782776&sll=43.648205,-71.701355&sspn=0.382576,0.782776&geocode=FQ9emQIdL6a6-yEr0y5aH7vqrg%3BFeD_mQIdK2i8-yn75WKDw0WzTDES97FKZ4VAEg%3BFQa9mgIdc_66-yktj0u520SzTDFEik9hpokj5w%3BFd4xmwIdP1q7-ylnZI3eXkOzTDGH0If-HtMFPw%3BFRd9nAIdNHm6-yH6aB8PGfUHCw%3BFQU-nAIdEqO4-ynVbMKKrF-zTDGQMb99_bb2KA%3BFbfUmwIdhJm3-yn1bnVA2aC0TDHVIO2_IhtPRw%3BFdLwmgIdIU63-ymD6FwS66e0TDGgv9AZqk_w4A%3BFSMAmgIdgp64-ym7pcxiMVezTDEUnl2XzsVQoQ%3BFfSRmQIdl2a5-ykPX9ALu1GzTDFns87bpthc0A%3BFZKNmQId6Ya4-ylrN49wRlGzTDF3i-wkOgxFqA%3BFeUImQId9Gq4-ymZ3L-7r1OzTDFa35ED4robNA%3BFeOGlwId08W3-yGRGcBHw3-51w%3BFRFGmAIdJuW4-ykn648fsFKzTDFbG-z1NCjHHQ%3BFVznmAId-I-5-yl5bjFiClKzTDHmCCDEsE0gCQ%3BFbAhmQIdc_y5-yktJcYPEk6zTDGNMx_Lenm2uA%3BFQ9emQIdL6a6-yEr0y5aH7vqrg&oq=us+post&t=h&dirflg=h&mra=ls&via=8&z=11

That's about 50 miles from me. Unfortunately I don't know if the timing will work out...

I'm pretty sure Carlisle is the same weekend as your event. That is a huge deal, and will probably lure away alot of potential attendees at your event.

Maybe you could set up your event and caravan to PA for the Carlisle show.

Yeah, same weekend as Carlisle, and the weekend after is the Euro Cheesesteak rally.

I actually kind of planned it somewhat to coincide with Carlisle, since I won't be able to make the trip, and I know there are some other people from NE in the same boat. It is sort of an "instead of" to Carlisle.

I definitely understand lots of people have plans to attend Carlisle, and in no way intended for it to (or thought it would) lure people away from Carlisle. Carlisle is an amazing event, I attended years ago and am definitely looking forward to making it back one of these years. It's just a tough nut to swallow being a slow time of year for me income wise and a long ass drive to PA.

I see it as one of those things where you kind of just have to set a date and run with it. I'm keeping my hopes up for a good turnout!

You can download one of those GPS tracker apps for your phone , and pre run a course and set the map, then share it with everyone else thats going to tour it with you.

I think the one for mountain bikers is called Everytrail.

One last bump for this, Geoff any chance you can make it??? Supposed to be great weather and it looks like it's going to be a good turnout. I'm psyched.
