Then we better figure something out because STPR has that nice big water crossing.

haha, it's not exactly an original 280K mile engine like yours. Once they pass the 200K mile mark, if something or other is not leaking you should start to worry.

Luke, That is a nice looking block. Did the original block paint clean up like that or did you re-spray it? in my 88 SPG, I have a 90 900-T block with the red paint. When I had it all apart refreshing it, after I sprayed it down with some engine degreaser the red paint looked like new!

No, block was all rusty. Was stripped, acid etched and repainted. Only thing I used was the basic block/crank/pistons everything else came from my old motors.

Going slow is what got me in trouble when I hydrolocked. If I had carried some speed I might have been fine.

yeah I figured. did you repair the head from your old motor or did you just use another T5 head? If I recall that was damaged when the rod let go?

The motor we had at RNY had an early 2.3 head, which was toasted by a free floating piston. Our nice later head was sitting safely at home. It was on the car when it hydrolocked but I went over it very closely and everything looked fine and valve didnt leak when seated so my fingers are crossed...

Sounds like its time to build a snorkel so you can run a K&N filter. Perhaps into an aluminum box that allows you to pull air from the top. or back.
