Rally West Virginia

Postby Crazyswede » Wed Jun 12, 2013 11:19 am

We will be working on the next rally car all weekend in preparation for Rally West Virginia coming up in July. If you'd like to join the party we have a busy weekend of cutting the old cage out.

Why do you have to cut out the cage?

I thought it was only a few years old... is it out of date already?

In preparation for future events and to help drive the publicity engine we have been doing a lot of background work to help boost our exposure. Luke has relaunched the Wordpress Blog on this site though it needs a little fine tuning still we have both installed the relevant wordpress apps on our phones and will be able to update the blog live with text and photos whenever we have access to network (great at some events...tricky at others). Between our two smartphones and data plans we do reasonably well on coverage.

We are also well underway into building the new car and I will get a thread started in the projects area.

When is Rally WV ?

Are we reversing roles? Seth Driving / Luke Navigating?

What powertrain is going in this beast?

RWV is the last weekend in July. about 4.5 weeks away. In exchange for a tremendous amount of help to build the car I will be letting Luke drive this one. I think its a pretty good deal for both of us. I'll post more details on the car when I get a chance but it has a Saab 4 speed rally gearbox and a 2.0 litre 16v engine.

July 26-28th, 1 month away! I will be driving for the maiden voyage in exchange for prep, as the car basically needs everything!
The powertrain is the one part of the car that is in fairly good shape at the moment, I'm sure Seth will post details in the build thread.

I will definitely come to this, so long as I know the plan well in advance on this one.

Finding out the night before that the plan is to leave in the morning caused a bit of a scheduling conflict at my shop. I was already trying to cram a weeks worth of orders into 3 days (Memorial Day was at the beginning of the same week). Driving to Wellsboro in the F150 would be a considerable fuel cost for me. And nothing else was running at the time, so I had to bail.

A secondary crew vehicle will need to figured out as we are taking Seth's sprinter which is a 2 seater. Tentative plan is to leave thursday morning so we can run the shakedown stage.

The rally format is pretty much all day Saturday and all day Sunday. We won't be coming home until Monday morning. I am looking into house rentals to share with other teams to save some money and find something better than a hotel. We would want to get an early start down on Thursday morning and plan on leaving early Monday morning.

We had really good luck in Sweden using www.airbnb.com, theres a couple other similar sites out there, but I can't remember what they are at present.
