This year NWSOC is hosting the SOC down in Oregon. I know that some of the people here are on the West coast, are you planning on attending?
The club is also putting together a week long drive to the event.

Re: SOC 2014 Redmond OR
Sounds like it would be a great time. Unfortunately , my wife will be 35 weeks pregnant and so I don't think I'll be able to trek cross-country. Disappointed, but at the same time, the alternative seems worth it

Baby's first SOC?
I believe there are a bunch of people here in LA and San Diego who are pretty amped to make the drive up.
For me, it will depend on:
1) Whether I get a Burning Man ticket, and a group together to go (and have sufficiently recovered), and
2) Whether I have a car ready that I really want to take up.

My plan is to drive out from RI with the 99 Turbo.
Details are pretty thin so far.

The high desert is awesome. Skip Burning Man and see some lava flows, walk though a mile long lava cave, climb the obsidian flow, visit Crater Lake, go rock climbing, white water rafting, skiing/snowboarding (yes, in August!)
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off

Would love to drive the '80 back to her old stompin' grounds. She grew up in Oregon and sat abandoned in the high desert for at least 14 years. Too bad she's in New Hampshire now. Made that long drive last summer and not eager to do it again soon.

Re: SOC 2014 Redmond OR
SOC is 10 miles from my parents house, used to go to Eagle Crest often as a child .. so guess I have no excuse to skip it.
Not sure what the convention is all about tho (other than SAABs) .. is there really 4 days worth of content?
If there's parts to be had I'll be there.

Re: SOC 2014 Redmond OR
I'm not sure what the schedule is, but I'd likely drive down Friday morning and leave Sunday. There is also the 5 day 625 mile coastal 'pre-tour' which starts the Saturday before. NWSOC has a bit of a camping / trailer (trail-or-boat too) tradition. CombiCoupe bedding is optional.
Re: SOC 2014 Redmond OR
Here is the pre-tour schedule in PDF .. doing that trip is a huge commitment for sure.

Re: SOC 2014 Redmond OR
Tickets are now on sale!
$175 for the full package.
Ordered my ticket, and obligatory SCNA membership.
Now I need to get motivated to freshen up my 99 a bit.
Praying it doesnt rebel on me the week before the Convention!
Driving it only weekly now to try and be nice to it
If anyone has spare 99 parts for sale, bring them with, I'll be looking to buy

Re: SOC 2014 Redmond OR
edit: hope this image hosting works now? never tried this before.
had a great time .. so much so that I haven't left yet
borrowed a camera and snapped a few pics. somehow I forgot to take one of Chouan's amazing 99 Turbo (minus a few front-end cameos) despite being parked next to it all weekend
but I'm sure it will turn up. Love your car man. Glad you made it all the way out here.
a few of my favorites:
93
for some reason a Noble showed up:
original owner 99 Turbo and People's Choice winner 1984 900
1979 900 EMS
this is what happens when you breed a SAAB 99 and a Ford Courier:
4 of the 7 99s:
Sonett III
99super I believe:
and my 99:
I'm totally SAAB'ed out for a while. Though I may be picking up a new set of MSS Headers + Exhaust I saw for sale there
Hoping to find a garage for rent in the next few months to avoid subjecting my 99 to another winter.

Hans and Dan gave a presentation on their Alcan 5000 Rally adventure
The Pickle was there. Very well prepared as you might imagine.
