http://www.patagoniaatacama.cl/english/ ... acama.html I am not going to make it into this event this year as the entry fees have already either closed or have become too much and I am not ready in any way. The goal is to compete...well attend, ride, and finish next year. I will most likely be running in the marathon class but am looking into some sort of support. Pretty sure I will be running a modified Suzuki DRZ400E but that could change as well as the bike will need a few tweaks to make it fit better.
My current woods machine...if I stick with this bike I will buy a new one and build it from there:

Its not cheap by american rally standards but its also not 1 day long. Its 9 days long and covers somewhere around 5000 KM. Your entry fee covers all of the safety gear (GPS, Sentinel, road books, etc etc) as well as food, transportation of one rally box, and a place to sleep every night. Some events include the cost of fuel in the entry fee for bikes as well. Its also quite a bit less expensive then the dakar rally which carries a $15,000 entry fee for a bike and can easily end up costing close to $50,000 for one guy on a bike by the time its done.
