2023 Spring Maryhill Hillclimb

Postby 99Super » Mon May 29, 2023 4:12 pm

Hey all!
I raced Frank in the Spring Maryhill event this weekend and had a decent result.
The new engine, suspension setup and wing all made the car feel much faster and planted.
My fastest run was 155.51 seconds.
On Saturday, my fastest of 5 runs was 158.xx but I knew there was a lot of time left out there.
I drove the morning run group on Saturday, and worked Sunday morning.
It was getting hot by Sunday afternoon and I pulled a 158.xx on my first run.
The Quaife was slipping and I think it was making the transmission really hot as the car would cool down by the time I got to the bottom of the hill, but would get hot again quickly.
Next project, a bigger/transmission oil cooler...and bigger front tires.
Anyway, on my second run, I pulled a 155.51 sec run and decided that was good enough for the weekend.

Earlier I had overheard a comment from the Fiesta ST about 'beating the Saab' when he got a 157.xx. I couldn't let that stand ;)

I think I have a 150.00 in it next year. When I'm still taking 3 seconds off per run, there's still time on the hill!

Final results. One more run and I may have made the top 10.

Hey Birdie!
The color is a mid-90s GM blue, but I don't remember the exact one. Hard to believe that the paint is now older than the original Antelope Brown was when I had it painted!
It's all in my build thread, but it's an overbored 2.1 with custom Race-Tec pistons and lightweight rods for a 2RZ Toyota. RBM header with the Mitsubishi turbo. 9-3 Viggen intercooler. Late 5-speed with Quaife diff. 86 vented brakes with Hawk pads. Rear suspension has adjustable panhard rod, torque arms and spring perches with Eibach springs.
T5.5 engine management. Mildly tuned at 240hp.

It still has it's original glass, but the rear seat and carpet are removed, the class rules require front carpet, 2 seats and door cards. 4 point roll bar, Kirkey aluminum seat.
Car weighs 1000kg.

John

Rota RBs. 15x7, -12 offset.

I really need to find some 15x8s or 15x9s for the front so I can run some wider tires.
