So over the long weekend Carolyn and I took a trip to visit the one and only Matt Joseph of WV.

It was an exciting trip to say the least. Here are some highlights of the trip:

The Joseph homestead in Paradise, WV.

Ripping around the local roads in a VW bus:

Matt Checking out the huge dent he put in bus trying to drive across a small lake.

Building a bonfire with help of a propane torch:

Some local scenery:

We went on a bike ride. It turned out the reason the trail said "hiking only" was not because they didnt want bicycles on the trail, but because it was highly unadvisable to try to ride a bike on the side of a cliff.

This was a really sweet restaurant we went to. Inside it contained the only partial vegetarian menu in WV.

People in West Virginia seem to have problems throwing things out. This is the inside of an old General Store on Matts property that closed in the early 50's.

Matt contemplates the state of the rally car:

We took a nice walk down a "holler" that is also Matt's practice stage.

Matt in his element: listening to some crappy AM station from Denver... just because he can!

Our Appalacian pose:
Note the following essential elements:
Murphys Irish Stout, an old hollowbody, a honda enduro 100, Straw hats from National Recovery Administration era (found in general store, 1934) the AK47 and Ethel kitty.

Is an AK47 really a symbol of Appalachia, or is that all you could find?

And who'se the white-haired dude?

Heck, I walked up a road like that to school, every day, uphill, both ways, in a snow storm! :dunno:
