82...thats air cooled? So not very fast but at least you wont have to worry about the regularly failing head gaskets.

I was thinking that first I would do the tdi swap and then start with the grease. We'll see, I'm just gonna drive it for a little while, see how slow it is. The lady I got it from says it gets 30 mpg all day here but will only grab 65 mph down hill. She drove from CA to AK with it and then came down here a couple years ago.

is it just me or is the intercooler against the floor/pretty much useless?
I'd suggest an air to water intercooler setup for that swap.

I bought a (dead) aircooled Vanagon (1980) a few years back, hoping to restore it.
Never got it fully running; mechanic i'd given $500 and a good motor to did nothing .. so I bought a 2nd 1980 van :P

Fixed that up a bit, had some fun & then sold all my Vans/parts .. 67 hp (originally) just doesn't work on the Interstate.

The NW is Vanagon Valhalla, but aside from my buddy's, I almost never see 80-83 (aircooleds) anymore.
I wouldn't want an h20 van; that's like buying a GM Saab ... though they are better swap candidates.

Actually there's an 85 with a 91 motor parked in my yard .. not my problem this time though :fuckyou: (belongs to a guy I sold Van parts to .. I offer free parking to European vehicles)
