Would you put a Lexan windshield on a daily driver?

Yes, you aren't going to find a pristine used windshield

I'll keep looking.. I appreciate the help. There is one in Lewiston, ID which is the next closest.

Um, clearly I was struggling to pay attention this morning. Nice of you not to say, "I already checked, idiot..."

Hey, this forum is not only the best saab forum around, but also the friendliest ;-)

I know Nate at Trollmotors has a spare 78 windscreen, but the last time I was there we took a peek at it and saw
there were two rock chips.

I think Mark got his 'new' windshield from Pilkington. I wonder if they're green tint? Probably clear. I hope to hear back from them, but I still have a few months before I need a windshield.

I hand delivered the one I sold to Karl in MN, that sucks.

I'm going to make polycarb ones for my car, if anyone wants one let me know since I'll have the pattern done up, will be easier than trying to do it again later.

I bought the one off of ebay, pictured above. .. just added a poll .. I'm curious, since most of you are rally guys, what you would think about putting Lexan on a daily driver.

sjones,

Somebody is selling a '74 EMS in Seattle for $500. Maybe you can take it and would have some spare parts as well.

I know that car .. I've not seen it on the road for a while and I guess that why. Thats a subtle orange though. My wife wants that car, but we're already in too deep with the 77 5DR.

There is always room for another Saab. By the way, how cool is the reaction of your wife. I would strongly suggest you support her

I have heard from several people that depending on what exact plastic the windows are they get brittle from the UV from the sunlight and will shatter with impact.

The other downside is that the surface will get scraped up from the windshield wiper blades unless you get big tear-off screens to protect it.

I am going to use an abrasion-resistant, UV-resistant polycarbonate for mine, but don't know how well it will hold up. I will also put a cover over the car when it's parked in the sun, and will park it in the shade otherwise, DD use is totally different from that.

Depending on your state, it also may not be transportation department legal.

That makes me sick. Stupid people piss me the fuck off :ranting: The same thing happened to me a while back with some early original headlamps for a Bug. The dipshit threw them in a box with zero padding, to which they arrived in pieces :ranting: He refused to do anything about it, not to mention he did not insure the damn things. Fucking idiot! :ranting:
