I see more of the "smoker's choice" radio units in cars than the other one you have pictured with the radio installed. I have one in my '78 Turbo. They're usually cracked or broken in some way. It would look pretty sweet with a vintage radio installed in it with some brushed aluminum knobs.

Which do you mean when you say "Turbo center console"?

This one I believe .. or maybe this is just a 900 piece installed in a 99?

I'm not really concerned about a radio, though putting the 99FM radio would be my first thought. I find driving cars (that make noise) I tend to prefer to listen to the car than the radio. :)

There were a number of consoles like that available from the accessories catalogs. That one looks pretty nice. I'm not a fan of the console that sits on the floor and doesn't contact the components under the dash.

I like the SAAB 90 console (fits 99s)

I've got that one. Plenty of room for audio, gauges and stuff. For folks w/ really large feet, it can encroach in the gas pedal area.

How does it attach to the floor?

I've decided I'll put in the original 99FM radio, but my car never had the antenna hold punched in the back. The original antenna cable was installed however, and just taped off inside the rear quarter. That is pretty interesting, but it make sense that they'd do that even if the car was not sold with a radio. I'm not sure where to put a speaker though, not in the dash. The previous owner installed a funky antenna on the right wing, but I've welded in a piece to fill that hole.

I don't think I'll put a HAM rig in the car, though I did consider that.. de w0tty

Check out that funky with the pseudo loading coil :)

Here is an interior shot where you can see that radio assembly hanging down and an aftermarket cup holder screwed
into the floor.

It looks so much better now that its gutted out.

The metal dash (under the vinyl cover) actually has a pre-stamped hole in it for a mono speaker.

There's another radio console that has a spot in it for a speaker or two.

Some people put speakers in the door cards. You could get some 900 4dr door cards and mount them in the rigid foam.

You could make your own kick panels and put a set of speakers there. Although you will get much better imaging if they were on the dash.
