The 99 Holy Fucking Grail

Postby sjones » Tue Sep 13, 2011 3:41 am

Just curious .. what is the 99 Holy Fucking Grail? I used to think it was 77 and + turn signals .. or a filler hose .. then I thought it was a windshield gasket .. then I thought it was a windshield. Maybe someone will make a 99 completely out of Lexan.

Its late, I'll regret this post.

Maybe its a working clock.

No its probably a glove box latch....

or a grill that isn't broken somewhere.

16v B-motor and a Sport & Rally dog-box?

Not having a really stock 99 its hard to say, but I'd say window seals, B-motor timing chain tensioners, quick-ratio EMS steering racks, inner tie-rods , steering rack bushings and in this part of the country, clean sheet metal.

One of the perks of owning a 99 is that if you are willing to forgo a little originality you can usually swap in the equivalent 900 part which makes ownership a lot easier.

I was going to say 99T/EMS burgundy seats with the pop-out head rests too.

Either that or a running Triumph motor. Though that's more of a black sheep.

To refine nutcase's comments - (mostly) rust free 3 door / 5 door rear tailgates - including the rear spoiler which is (slightly) different to the later 900 ones :berserk:

The chrome trim for the front and rear bumpers with the rubber strip insert (and the bumper covers here in Aus - damn the sun).

Front grille turbo badge  http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216517 - Sorry

And for the rest of the world - US style headlights and grille ;)

Not to threadjack too much but wouldn't a '76 with a sunroof be a Belgian car? I seem to remember all sunroof cars prior to '77 or '78 were Belgian.

Pre-'74 steering rack boots....

D-jet fuel pumps, injectors, pressure-metering-thingies.

K-jet fuel lines.

Warm-up regulators that actually regulate... as they warm-up....

I think my clock worked, you can have it if you want. It's all tachs from here on out.

Exactly! I once bought a completely rusted out 76 EMS just for the sunroof parts for my less rusty 76 EMS...

what about the rubber boot that seals the shifter rod thru the firewall? Those are getting hard to come by.

On our shores, the Saab 90 console and Euro 99 72-76 corner lamps have to make the list. It took me years to find these parts, and the 90 console was found by accident. Some lady in Canada was trying to sell a rotten 4dr 99 for next to nothing, but it had the console. I offered her close to the asking price of the car for the console. She took it

I think new D jet injector seals might be made from unobtanium, unless they are the same as those used on 914s (also D jet). I need to look that one up.

There is a Saab 99 roof rack on the bay right now, which I never knew existed.

It seems as though almost any Saab accessory for the 99 is really hard to come by. Hell, 99s themselves are hard as fuck to come by in my neck of the woods.

I think its a personal thing.

MY 99 Holy Grail right now is an early front windshield gasket, and a clean set of doors for a 71 99 2 door.

I also need to find a set of the early 99 front lower control arm bushing blocks.

It would be nice to find some corner lamps that are nicer than mine. I would also like to find a set of interior (door and quarter) panels for my 71 that are in nice shape. But black in color instead of the brown stuff I have now.

I would like to have back some of the things I threw in the trash thinking I'll never need that. Cuz now I need it Dammit!
