any info on that? I have never seen one before. Air/air or H2O/air? Works or OEM accessory?

Well, that's different!

Speaking of factory intercoolers, I am told that the one pictured below came from Saab. Anyone seen something like this before?

The car is an ex-club rally 99 with 100% more B202T.

There was some sort of early intercooler that was available similiar to that before one became std on the T16, I remember one of the guys on the Turbo! list had one, I think James Fox then had it for a while, I saw a pic of it, but never saw it mounted. Maybe they were some prototypes units that SAAB let rallyists use.
I built a really nice fitting and better flowing one that very similar, but it got smooshed in a roll :(

Hans, maybe that's the 900 8v intercooler that SAAB is said to have sold at one point? I seem to remember that was the story behind the one Luke mentioned. I think they were more popular outside the US, in countries that got the 8v turbo after '84.

Sweedspeeduk, WTF is that!?

I've got one of those early 8v units. The IC is made by Stewart-Warner and was meant to fit in the battery location. Even has a nice molded heat shield for the turbo. I assume you had to move the battery to the trunk.

As John said I was under the impression that these where an air/air intercooler that where sold as an accessory but I have never seen one in the alloy !

I have one of the all alloy ones like in Hans photo but its a bit tight in the 99 bay !

Got any other photos John !?

I don't know... this thing looks suspicious. I'm thinking Luke might have made it out of some old alternators he melted down and a standard 8v turbo to throttle body duct.

I didn't even think of top-mounting an IC like that going directly from the compressor outlet to the TB.... this could make packaging heat exchangers a little tidier for me....

I have been looking at the barrel water to air type for the 99 16v.

Very little lag or pressure drop due to its direct routing.

I like it! I wanted something like that years ago when I first started my 99 project but it was out of budget! Use an A/C condenser in front of the rad for cooling, sweet!

Wow, those are cheap. The kits that come with radiator, fan, and pump are cheap too. Good find. Have you bought anything from them, or just looked at the pretty pictures?

I have not bought from them. They sell the Bosch water pump a bit cheaper than the going rate. It is nice to see they have bundled kits. I was probably going to get the I/C first and use a Davies Craig pump I have sitting on the shelf. Not real fond of the NPT bungs, so I would cut those short/off and weld on some AN bungs.

MY 99 Holy Grail right now is an early front windshield gasket, and a clean set of doors for a 71 99 2 door.

I also need to find a set of the early 99 front lower control arm bushing blocks.

It would be nice to find some corner lamps that are nicer than mine. I would also like to find a set of interior (door and quarter) panels for my 71 that are in nice shape. But black in color instead of the brown stuff I have now.

I would like to have back some of the things I threw in the trash thinking I'll never need that. Cuz now I need it Dammit!

YO Swede, there's a few corner lamps on ebay...And a quarter panel too...Joe

haha, I was looking at that and thinking the same thing...

But seriously that is one bad-ass piece of kit. I wish we could see the underside.

Yeah, and the front. I wonder how big the core is? Looks like the core might just be the rectangular space underneath the SAAB text, and the rest is end tanks, air flows through the front? I'm sure it looks awesome under the hood too.
