Hoarders - SAABrally style
Hoarders - SAABrally style
Theres that set of wheels on a parts car at a local mechanics shop you just couldnt pass up - the lure of the red stitching on a saab momo steering wheel that fueled a last minute bidding frenzy on ebay - the fuzzy cell phone picture in the craigslist ad that gave a glimpse of a whaletail on the back of the beat up 900 that you had to buy to get it! ... and that trip to the junkyard for a few small items that ended with your hatch full of goodies that you absolutely didn't need, but couldnt pass up!
We are all guilty...
We are SAAB owners and we hoard.
This thread is your chance to come clean, to air out your dirty laundry to those who understand.
Post up pictures of your stash!

Just a taster, it's the only pic of my garage I have handy... it's worse now...
The washing machine has been replaced by a B201. Those bare rims in the back are soccer balls off a '79 900 EMS :D

LOL I was just out in one of the garage bays and i was like...boy this would be a good photo of "your a saabrallyist if...." and then boom , here's the thread. I'll have to take some photos too. Luke better show his stuff... and make us all feel good about ourselves.
Speaking of Junkyard scores... got these louvers last weekend among some other goodies
Running projects shelf.
Long term storage
Stuff in the way.
Wheel stacks
continued...
Engines n' stuff
Metal n' stuff
I'm not the most organized person.. but I went just went through a lot of stuff and threw out like 3 garbage bins worth of stuff I held on that I was either never going to use or I thought had no value... I have lots of other stuff strewn about ...hung on walls... and in other secret places

Re: Hoarders - SAABrally style
My Saab hoard is really fairly limited. I have a bunch of whole cars, transmissions and wheels, and a lot of regular failure items... but I frequently will come up with some this or that I don't have "in inventory" and have to make a special junk yard trip for.
Frequently, this turns into a trip where I
A) Don't get, forget about, or they don't have the part I went there for
B) Come back with a large load of things I didn't really "need"
My excuse is typically "well if I had to buy just one of these things new, it would have cost me more than the whole lot did!" I can also pepper in "Hey, I bet that's NLA!" I nearly got a complete K-Jet system off an 83 turbo but then I remembered I had a parts car with that exact set up in it already, that ran fine.

Jordan, where did you find the rack you keep your current project stuff on (the grey one with the HDF covered shelves). I need one (actually a couple) like that because I moved and have to organize my Saab stuff... Well I guess I'm in the right thread here...

Re: Hoarders - SAABrally style
I cut up a '92 900 and saved all of the parts in about 15 or 20 Rubbermaid bins. I have spare B202 and B212s, a spare B212 bare block (pristine deck at the pull-a-part, had to buy it), a spare transmission, three sets of rims, a bunch of cams, control arms, brakes, spindles, carpet, a pristine dash fascia, probably eight APC boxes, a handful of distributors, couple 8k tachs, 40 or 50 pounds of fasteners, glass, trim...
Unfortunately, I often buy s#!t at the pull-a-part that I don't need, so the collection only grows. I've bought 99 stuff, too, cuz I hate to see those cars get crushed, and because I'm going to make millions selling Saab parts on eBay some day.

This is just a start, but here goes:
Mounted tires for various activities, this is not including the sets on the 5 SAABs currently at the farm. Mostly minilites of some variety and soccerballs.
Just a few extra minilites, shelbies, ronal 8 spokes, etc...
The transmission graveyard:
Some stuff heading up the stairs to my real storage area in the hay loft, it was too dark up there so those pics will come later.

These were taken as part of my re-organization effort a few weeks ago.

Re: Hoarders - SAABrally style
I may not have as many rims as some of you, nor as many transmission carcasses as Luke, but I do have a fairly large collection of Saab stuff. I have filled the back of my F150 twice so far this year with useless metal that can otherwise be recycled into cash at the scrap yard. That said I still have shit pouring out of my garage into the parking lot, piled up at my house, in my dad's shed, in my printing shop, and even a few things stashed at friends places.
Most stuff is laid out in preperation for one of the 4 project cars that are in progress. But some of the stuff is for spares. All my projects are of similar vintage, and share components.
All of them are using the up to 87 bolt pattern so that all my wheel & tire combos will interchange between cars. If I actually finished all of my projects, I would have 4 cars and a rack of wheels. Maybe a shelf or 2 with spare parts. But right now I have 30,000 individual parts cluttering up the shop.
Jordan, I'm right there with you on the "not so organized" front. Although it looks like you have really straightened up and made some progress since I was at your place last.

They are a modern 17 " drag brand wheel. Shod with kumho ecstatic mx tires. Intended for my admiral blue 85 900t. Kind of reminiscent of the yellow shelby look.
