Hans, did you get your car back? I've seen two white 3 doors since. One was travelling North on 99 going across the bridge on Friday, one heading West on I-90 just as I was making it on to the bridge (heading East). both were turbos with the wide trim on
the lower section. What is the first and last of your WA plate?

I have not gotten it back.

Following are unique identifiers:

--WA Plate 1**-**D (NO front license plate)
--duct tape on driver side front bumper (need to replace cracked trim strip)
--Several stickers along the bottom of the rear passenger-side quarter window
--small dent in the passenger door, near handle
--It's got SPG springs, so it's lower than a run-of-the-mill Turbo

Thanks for keeping an eye out! Meanwhile, I learned at a party last night about a guy in Wallingford who had his 88 c900 stolen a few weeks ago -- small world, he's a friend of a friend. I am waiting to hear back from him (his car was returned, mostly undamaged).

Another follow-up: I just looked on SPD's Twitter feed for stolen cars and discovered that 26 c900s have been reported stolen so far this year, which is about one car every ten days.

If you are living in Seattle and driving a c900, I think having at least a kill switch is probably a good idea.

:yay:

Little f#@ker had a Saab key. No damage that I can see but I haven't driven it yet. By "little," I mean, literally: seat was pulled way up.

Thanks to you Seattleites who kept an eye out for it!

Woooooooow I've never heard of that happening, sounds like same thing that happened to your friend-of-a-friend too.

Buy a lotto ticket or buy a pretty girl a drink at a bar, cause you are luckyyyyy.

There was a guy back in August in the same area whose c900 was stolen for a weekend, it sounded like it turned up like this one did, no damage at all and such. And as you mentioned on Saabcentral forums, there's been a ton of thefts in Seattle for the year, I can recall at least 6 postings on craigslist in as many months in the exact same area looking for their stolen c900.

Of course, there is a huge concentration of SAABs and Volvos in that area, so could be a coincidence.

Glad you got it back and such !

Great news. The kill switch(es) will be fun for a while but a complete pita as time goes on. Craig use to pull his steering wheel off. Most like does not do that anymore. Glad to hear it is back.

Did the police notify you when they found it or did you find it in this parking lot? Do the 99s have a similar key issue? Watch out for midgets scoping out C900s - carry a net or a cricket bat.

Glad you got it back unscathed.

Great News. I was hoping this would be the outcome. Did they catch the guy or just find the car. Time to install some sort of immobilizer.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing!

Glad you got it back and it looks like the little tyke parked it in a sensible location. The closest spot to a grocery carriage return is probably the place where it's least likely to be dented by a shopping cart because people in that area of the parking lot are actually putting their carts away.

I used to have fun with two friends in high school who also had C900s. I'd start their cars and move them but I'd never take them out of the parking lot. It was for fun so I could watch them come out of the building and say, "'Dude, where's my car?' Hey, I didn't park it over there!"

So C900s have universal keys? that's scary .. but I imagine Sweden in the 1980s did not suffer from car theft as much as we do stateside ...

Hopefully this thread will remind me to utilize my alarm more (a.k.a. reinstalling the horn fuse; horn won't shut off when ignition is on :P )

Not so much universal but they only made so many variations. Also as the cylinders wear more and more keys will fit. And ultimately anyone with a properly setup slide hammer can steal a classic 900 even if there is a reverse lockout. I wager I could steal your 900 is about a minute
