SEATTLE - STOLEN SAAB 900

Postby Hans » Mon Sep 10, 2012 9:52 am

My white '89 900 Turbo hatchback was stolen in the Greenwood neighborhood last night. If you are a Seattleite and see a white classic hatch with no front license plate, 9000 V6 rims (thin spokes), and a mismatched left rear steel rim, please call 911, then call me at 206 930 zero three seven nine.

Thank you!!

I'll keep my eyes out for it. Was it parked on Phinney last night near the 7-11?

Saab 900's (due to ease of theft) - along with a lot of other older cars are often high theft targets. Sorry about your loss, I hope the car turns up for you.

Lock your doors, make sure your cars ignition works correctly, and actually locks in reverse (shift lock parts are still available!). Try other 900 keys and make sure you can't open or start your car with ANY key, if you can, buy a new ignition tumbler. (you can still buy these new too!) My SPG which sees extensive time in parking lots where there is potential for it "driving off" I periodically make sure it's still "theft resistant" - no problems yet.

A few years back my brother got his 87 Toyota pick up stolen. It was an old car with like 250K on it. Old Toyotas, like 900's tend to get so that you can use any key on the doors and ignition unless the parts that wear are replaced. People get the idea that no one is going to take their rusty 22 year old car, so they don't bother fixing ignition lock issues... and the next thing you know.... car is gone.

Sounds like an immobilizer might not be a bad idea.

When did you see it there? I had not driven the car since Friday afternoon.

So bummed right now. Have put off putting a kill switch in my cars for years. Dumbass.

Sux! there isn't a load of value in stealing old c900s, so I'm assuming it was for a joyride.

I regularly leave my keys in the ignition when I go into stores. I'm of the mindset that noone wants my 26 year old car.

What's with Seattle .. someone on a VW forum had their c900 stolen as well (though it was recovered a few blocks away)

I never worry about anyone stealing my car when its out (just stealing my cheap but trusty CD deck).. more worried about someone rolling it out of my back yard at night while I sleep o_O

hardly any 99s around here though, so if mine does get jacked it is probably by one of you Washingtonians :P

Man, I am militant about locking up my car and I get totally nervous leaving it in park-and-rides. Like Hans, I've had a switch awaiting installation for months (years?) now. I'll be putting that in shortly!

Hans, where in Greenwood?

Man, that sucks. I've seen a few internest posts in the past few years about stolen C900s and thought, "Why would someone want to steal that?"

If anyone wants I have a new, in the box, SAABguard alarm I'd sell.

I stopped by the 7-11. The car there belongs to an employee.

It's gotta be the guy that was selling 30 saabs a while back. He skipped bail, hopped a train to Seattle, where he jacked your ride to run a load of heroine back to the east coast.

We'll be on the lookout for it here...
