About half of the cars marked as 1999 are actually MY 2000. WIS indicates that the early cars did not all have seat airbags. An early 99 car will have the metal inlet pipe going from inter cooler to throttle body. They also have an oil pan that is harder to remove. The leather in the seats is also different in the early ones but the cutover seems to be in the 2000 timeframe.
One other thing is that in the 4 cyl they got weaker injectors in 99. By 2001 they standardized the red injectors which are good up to nearly 300hp and are the same ones as on the aero. Supposedly there were differences in the engine internals as well but by 01 the aero and linear blocks were identical.
That looks like an early 99 car to me based on the look of the seats but that's just a guess since some of the MY 2000s got them as well. They get very hard and crack Unfortunately.

Re: Junkyard Sightings
My 99 early, base model car, with the metal intake pipe has side air bags. Perhaps it's a US market thing, but in the dealer brochure for the 99 Saab 9-5, it lists front and side airbags as standard.

Rod Beckner's place? My dad bought parts from him way back in the day. There are probably more 99s in that yard than in all of South Texas
Yup, him and John Collins, who owns the 99s.
As soon as I bought mine a bit over a year ago I called Rod up, he says "I just crushed most of my 99s last Summer"

Re: Junkyard Sightings
I saw an absolutely insane Altima at the yard yesterday.
It was T-boned HARD right on the driver's side B-piller, it pushed the pillar probably 18" into the center of the car, the two front seats were pressed pretty well against each other.
Then the whole thing caught fire. I mean the WHOLE damn car. There was not a spec of paint left on the outside of the car anywhere. If there were people in there I am pretty certain they are not with us anymore.
Sorry about the photos, the since was not in the right place for capturing the extent of the damage.
In the 2nd photo you can see the driver's B-piller coming up right about where the center console would be, and you can see how far it got pushed by referencing the left rear wheel that's still mounted.

Re: Junkyard Sightings
I have seen a few cars in junkyards that were hammered pretty hard. Sometimes you just get a feeling that it didnt end well for the occupants. I typically stay away from pulling parts off those. Maybe I am a bit superstitious, but I don't want parts from a death car.

Re: Junkyard Sightings
Meh, I pull parts off any car in the junk yard. In fact, the drive axles in my SPG came out of a C-900 convertible that I am fairly sure the driver at least could not have possibly survived. I also have the transmission from that car in my parents garage. In my opinion parts are parts once they hit the junk yard. Their past life is of no concern to me. Just like an old house that someone happened to die in... the house is still good.

Re: Junkyard Sightings
Decent looking '86 SPG at my local yard right now, mostly good body panels except where it got munched on the left rear wheel arch. May pull some things to keep as spares, front bumper, seatbelts, passenger seat, maybe carpet. All the lenses are good and the odometer only shows 88k.

Those are Firebirds. Even rarer than a Camaro.
Looks like a bunch of cool old cars in that yard.

Re: Junkyard Sightings
Hey Drew, I could use the two rear spg extension panels if you make it back to that junkyard. I'm two short of a full set of these old style panels. (assuming they are good)
Not super high priority or anything, but have been keeping an eye out for a decent pair.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Junkyard Sightings
I will check when I go back - I want to say the right rear one was missing or damaged though, I think I remember just the mounting rail being attached, but I'll take a look.

Re: Junkyard Sightings
Spent part of today at my local yard picking up parts for a friend.
Pleased to find they now serve lunch there.
Anybody else ever eaten lunch in a junkyard?
Could not resist snapping a pictures of this.
