So I am in the process of buying a house and it doesn't currently have a garage...a much needed future investment. I have been doing some design work for the house using google sketchup so I decided to draw up a garage idea I had (first iteration)....size may be limited due to zoning but I drew it up as 25x35...should be changed to 24x36. The walls are currently 14' high to accomodate I can probably go a little lower without issue. After seeing Jon's storage rack at his shop I modified the idea to store actual cars instead of just parts. How to get them up there....future problem to solve
All the components were pulled out of the 3d warehouse and scaled as needed to match the scale of the garage. the 900's have a 99" wheelbase which is close enough for this rendering.

Re: Garages
I dunno, that floor looks awfully thin to hold those cars up
Plus once there up there, you'd probably always have stuff in the way so you couldn't get them down again.

Re: Garages
Build it like an old school barn with a dirt ramp up to the second level.
or just cut it into a slope (if possible). drive in the upper level at the front, and lower level garage on side or back wall.

Re: Garages
the 2nd iteration is a bit more practical. The above building would be HUGE...and I don't think the zoning or my wallet would permit such a structure. I do like the idea of having a second floor loft structure to use as an office space/motorcycle storage work space. Plenty of time to play and sketch. Have to do some work on the house first.

Re: Garages
An industrial forklift with pads on the skids would be just the ticket to get cars up and down
Zoning here won't let you have 2 floors in a detached building... we tried to add another level for the wood shop. No go without "special approval" ie. impossible.

Re: Garages
You could probably get 2 of those storage lifts for less money than you could build the second floor strong enough to hold cars. And you get around the no second floor deal-io.

Re: Garages
Can you put a porch roof off the front? Add some covered outdoor space.

Re: Garages
Hey Seth,
I have an 80k BTU Modine heater for sale. It is currently set up for Natural Gas, but has the kit included to switch it over to Propane. I also have about 30 feet of vent pipe for it. I never got around to installing it, but it should be big enough to heat a shop nicely. I was gonna heat 2400 sq ft with it.

Re: Garages
Thanks for the offer but I won't be buying anything right now for a garage that doesn't exist yet.
