85 SPG rescued!

Spotted an 85 SPG on Craigslist yesterday and went over today to look at it and ended up buying it for $1000.

No rust anywhere (of course) decent paint that will buff up nicely, and only one small fresh ding that should come right out w/ some dry ice.
Runs and shifts nice.

Needs the sunroof re-aligned, and lots of little stuff in the interior, seats are shot of course, but now I have something to throw the best my stash of good used/NOS 900 bits at.

Now the 86 SPG has to go...

I found the original owner's folder in the seatback.
Built 4/85, bought in Guilford, Conneticut and was in San Rafael, Ca, within a few years. 1st owner averaged 30K /year w/ oil changes every 2500.
Record ends in 98 w/ 235k miles on it. It now has 354K.
I think I'll be able to find more of the history form the local Indy.

Very cool, I always liked the 85's, the tan interior is a nice change and the lack of fender mounted turn signals looks cleaner once you're used to it. I would prefer the rarer flat black SPG kit that I guess came on really early builds (?) but certainly wouldn't kick that one out of bed!

My dad and I had matching '85 SPGs for a while. Both rusted out and are gone now but I always think that I might want another some day.

Wiring harness has been re-done at some point. I'm guessing a later harness grafted in. Lots of those issues have been dealt with.
Somebody loved this car, art least for the first 250K. The exterior is great, the interior is kinda rough. The worst is the dash, headliner (water damage), windshield (cracked) and the misaligned sunroof. I'll wait for a warm sunny week and do it all at once.

Yeah, the leather was "fixed" at some point, but it's got issues. The panels were cut up for speakers. I recently parted out a tan fabric 87, I may swap in those bits. I also need to get 2 new factory keys cut...

Sweet find, looks like a clean car for such high mileage.

Wish I had a garage .. tho might be able to fit 2-3 more SAABs in the yard

Whaaaa.... what is this sorcery? I have an '86 Turbo ECU and a grey '82 APC box in my '85, and it runs grrrrrreat too. The '82 APC makes it spool real fast and holds a steady 13-14psi on a TD-04 6cm with headers and 2.1 head and intake.

Well, the 86 is sold.

Bryce bought it for $800 after we ripped out the E-codes, Borla, Koni's, S&R wheel, springs, etc.
The car was running great, and of course I warned him NOT to wash the engine...

...and of course, he did.

2 road rescues later, he's replaced the shielded wire from the distrib to the transistor unit.

Anyway, the rear of the 85 is back together and I'm rebuilding the front end as long as it's all apart.

A local yard had an 86 w/ some badly chewed vented brakes, I may go buy them tomorrow if they are still there and update the solids that are on the car now.

Otherwise, new ball joints, tie rod ends and cv boots...the usual.
