Metal vs. Plastic heater valve

Postby 99Super » Thu Jul 02, 2015 9:02 am

Hey all!

I'm going to use the long weekend to rebuild the dash on my 85 SPG.
While I'm in there, I need to replace the heater valve.
I have a couple of rebuildable (needs new O rings) plastic valves and a NOS metal valve. I know the metal can get stiff and crack the rod, but is there any advantage one over the other?
I have an uncracked dash, and a very nice bezel to use and I don't want to have to do this again.

I used a new ScanTec plastic valve. However I found the mating surface around the o rings was not flat so I corrected it on my belt sander. 2 years later still sealed up.
