It comes from the fact that most people have never built/restored a car. They don't realize how much it costs to restore or build up a car.

never built/restored a SAAB

If we were all driving 69 camaros we could go on jcwhitney and order all the reproduction parts. Any saab project is going to be more expensive in parts but perhaps cheaper in the outright purchase of the vehicle.

That said, one of the reasons i bought my spg is that I think the prices have fallen as low as they ever will and the parts exodus thats happening right now is making them more difficult to maintain. As a result, more and more 900s are going to get junked. Once that happens, all that will be left is collector cars, constraining the supply of parts and running cars alike. Perhaps it will be the first time in history where there was more demand for C900s than supply.

It does seem that we are reaching an apex in the classic Saab market. Though initial asking prices don't seem too much different than when I started looking in 2008. It is pretty cool though that the price ceiling for a really nice one has gone up considerably. I remember the first ad that I saw over $10k was a Monte Carlo Yellow for $14k a couple years ago. I laughed at it then, but now it doesn't seem so crazy.

I will have about $20,000 into the rally car including purchase and shipping it to the east coast. And that is not for a fancy show build. had to replace the roll cage, the engine block, the piston rings, rebuild the rest of the engine etc. It all ads up. knowing what I know now...if the same car had popped up for $15k a year ago...one without the need for the previous work... it would have been a deal.

A 1972 99 SSE, sort of vague description, not sure if gearbox is blown or not, but says it had the Triumph 1.85 swapped out for a B20 already...

Guys thats a first year copper coral ems i think. The side badges are accurate as is the front ems grill badge. The rare center ems was gold only for copper coral in that year. his paint looks redone in a color that doesnt quite match. Its a 1972.5 i believe as my 73 has the color matched copper coral mirrors. Definitely collectible, its the only ems with the old style wraparound headrests.

Ugh no i saw what i wanted to see there.

SSE—Sold in the US to satisfy demand while the EMS was not yet available there. The SSE had a black or burled walnut vinyl roof cover, a BorgWarner automatic transmission and a 1.85 L Triumph engine.

I've always thought the SSEs were kind of neat, in their own ugly way. I wouldn't pay that much for one but they're just a strange piece of history. The hubcaps are gross.

There were two of them floating around the Northeast a few years back. George M had one he traded to Mikael H and another guy Kevin had one that I think he sold. I always liked looking at them when I saw them. I think this car might be Kevin's. It has the same sheep skin seat covers.

The color is Copper Coral metallic and looks decent in good light.
