GRM Saab 99 for sale.

Postby GRMPer » Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:35 am

With some regret, I've decided to sell our 99.

1977 Saab 99
Built to Nasa M2/Rally America G2 specs.
Exceeds current 2008-built/logbooked cage. Very robust.
Fresh engine (50 miles on fresh rebuild)
Fresh Bilsteins (one rally on revalve)
6 good Michelin rally tires on Shelby Wheels
6 good Toyo R-compounds for tarmac on 15x7 Superlites
Racetech head restraint seats
Schroth Harnesses
ATL fuel cell
etc
etc
etc

What did you do about the blown engine?

Rebuilt it. The crank, rods and pistons were all still good, it was just the water pump being seized in the block. I cleaned up a spare block, put an electric wp in and voila...back on the road.

Yea, it's part of the job. Buy cars, build them, run them for a bit...move on to another project. I've only got so much time, space and money in my bank account. I thought this was going to be a keeper, but the combo of new projects needed plus my wife and I having a kid has made rally impossible.

I am interested but not going to pursue. Between bikes, old Saabs I already have, and the land rovers I cannot do anything else right now. Unless you want to start a GRM land rover project.

Understandable, going to pursue any other saab project in the later future?

Ah Per sad to hear it! I can certainly understand though, I'm not married and don't have any kids and I still find it difficult to keep active in rally... its really a commitment.
I've taken the last few month off to just catch my breath from sport, but excited to get the team together for a few events this year.
Anyway, you did a really great job on the car and I was really excited to get the new issues each month and to see the little antelope 99 progress.
It will really make a great fun turnkey rally car for someone that wants to get out on the stages. The price is a steal people, don't think for a second you could build a rally car half as nice for the same money. Someone that actually wants to rally TODAY instead of talking about it, should buy this car and join us out on the stages!

I agree with Luke. If I had the $ I'd buy it and stop trying to mess with my almost tired old car. Someone buy it so I can get it out of my mind!

Okay Per, what I'm seeing here is lack off commitment, I guess when the going gets tough... whatever happened to press on regardless? Seems to me we've miss the point of other good uses for a rally car, I've seen several turned into planters, some turned into balls, and some have experimented with organic aerodynamics... some used to autocross, hill climb, and piss off the local punk kids... Seems to me there is an article in there somewhere! :dunno:
IMHO,

Maybe, but it's really not a matter of commitment, I'm plenty committed to my job and family....the build up was a part of my job...a part that I happened to enjoy...but there are still plenty of other project cars to work on and write about.
