I'm working on restoring a '77 5DR 99 and ended up with a model 90 LR door. Its in fairly good shape (small dents, or possibly points where it was pulled out), trim, glass, rubber .. its all there. I guess the main difference is the door button under the handle rather than in the handle.
Is there much interest in model 90s, and I would guess this would work on a 4DR or 5DR.

I thought a 90 was a 2 dr? 99 front nose with 900 rear? Not sure if they made it to North America.

There was a SAAB 90 4dr but it was a prototype and got cut up for the front sheet metal when a journalist crashed the '76 99T prototype.

Re: Model 90 left rear door
Wow .. so what do I have then?
On the invoice it says its a model 90 LR door. The pad is exactly like the one in my '77 99, ditto on the chrome trim and glass. The door handle is basically the same except for the thumb button. I'd guess that there were no 90s with chrome
door handles though.
Any ideas?
BTW, this is really a great forum. I really appreciate the simplicity of it without all the bullshit clutter of embedded advertising every other saab forum has. I'm not a rally guy (though I'm happy to support that) but hope I can call this place home while I restore the 5DR.

Re: Model 90 left rear door
I looks like a 99 4-door door. Likely early 70's by the color...Bright Yellow.

I believe the Saab 90 was not offered in North America. I have seen a few when I still lived back in Germany but they were all notchbacks. Maybe there was a typo on the invoice?

Yeah I visited a few of the other SAAB forums recently and they really have become a confusing mess. Feel free to use the project forum to document your progress - in fact I just changed the description on that forum the other day to encourage more restoration type threads (in addition to the motorsports related builds) Those of us who started this site have a passion for modifying stuff, but appreciate the dedication and attention to detail that restoring a car requires as well.
Re: Model 90 left rear door
I'd say it's a 1970 door rather than a 1990 :) No way a model 90 door.

The thumb button is indicative of an early 99. When did the 4dr 99 come out, '72 or '73?

According to Wikipedia the 4 door was introduced in 1970.

I know Bright Yellow was available in 1973, maybe 74 as well?

Re: Model 90 left rear door
The VIN on the invoice starts out 9078xxxxx.. Isn't that supposed to be model+year? But who ever heard of a '78 90. :)

I'll bet it's more likely the dumb redneck working at the salvage yard just didn't know what he had. Your lucky it wasn't marked Datsun.
Be happy he made the connection between Saab and the number 9!
