crackpipe, and the car is nothing more than a modded 84 turbo (8 valve!)

He will be lucky if he can get a couple grand for it IMO.

Yep. That car shows up for sale every once in a while and the description always sounds shady..I think the asking price has only gone up. Not likely to sell in Rutland for that price and even in the rest of the Saab community its a stretch.

Agreed. Especially with that embarrassment on the hood.

I think he was trying to claim is was a factory graphic, haha...

Copied and pasted from a user on TSL regarding this car:

"The only thing of value about that particular car is the lie behind it. A number of years ago I came across the "original seller." A guy named Paul-something out of Montreal. He claimed the car was a prototype Aero/SPG he imported to Canada via Austria. He said it was a unique color based on Silver but had elements of pearl white in it.

It is an 8v. He was trying to sell it in the low $20k range. I called bullshit right away and he started arguing with me - telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. Funny. His story just didn't add up.

Actually, as one if the luckiest c900 owners (I actually own a Pearl prototype) out there with firsthand model line and historical knowledge of Saabs c900 production history-I do know quite a bit and am always interested in learning more and correcting inaccurate info. I felt so bad for whomever wound up with the car as it was a complete fabrication. Imported from Austria? How about America? It's a standard 8v turbo with the SPG body kit from 85-86. He claimed at the time that the special graphic on the hood was from the 1984 auto show circuit while the car was in Europe. Vinyl in 1984? Ha.

The best revenge is knowing that this fool of a seller had the same Griffin graphic permanently tattooed on his torso - he sent pics of his chest when I asked him for pictures of the car. I didn't need to see that...but it is ridiculous looking ... My opinion if course, but from someone who can appreciate good body art and tattooing. Although its not for me personally.

It's unfortunate for the current seller who was taken by the original Canadian seller that they have so much into the car. Their purchase was out and out fraud."

Wow. I thought I was a die-hard Saab fan. But if the mark of a true fan is a griffin logo tattooed on the chest, I've got a long way to go.

At least it wasn't a brand upon his chest. Have noticed an increasing number of NFL players with brands embossed on their arms (like, red-iron branding, not sponsorships! Though this might be a new way for sponsors to advertise)

What?,... You guys dont like the hood graphic? Ala Trans Am?

I would feel like Smokey and the Bandit in that thing. I would have to get a SAAB AAM graphic for on the trunk.

BTW,...
Although I doubt the griffen on the hood is factory, vinyl was common in 84. In fact it's been around since the late 60's. It was primarily used by big companies as it was too expensive yet for widespread use. By the mid 70's it was finding it's way into smaller companies and some larger sign shops. By the mid 80's it could be found at most small independent sign shops, and by the mid 90's many hobbyists had them in their homes.

The 99 stripe kits that came from SAAB were made in the 70's.

Even high quality vinyl has only about a 6-8 year outdoor life expectency. If the vinyl were from 84 as he states, there would be evidence of that showing. Shrinkage of the vinyl is common. Cracking sometimes occurs if it's really old. Curling of the edges as the adhesive fails. and flattening of the gloss and fading of the color. If the car is kept indoors this will be minimized, but it will still show it's age.

I think it looks like a pretty nice car, but the outrageous price and bullshit backstory are hard to swallow. Without the provenance to substantiate it's pedigree, I wouldn't think it's worth more than a few thousand.

Wow, I hadn't noticed the price until now. Does it fly? Made of gold? Come with a supermodel?

It annoys me when people throw in the term "rally" when it clearly is not a suitable rally part. Koni's are great shocks for the street but they are not "rally". The "rally" seats are reclining and would not be permissible for competition use at all...

Does look like a pretty clean car and I always like the silver body/spg panel combo. But if the interior were a really nice original leather instead of some fugly seats and cheesy gauges, maybe 5K on a good day?

IIRC back in the early 90's Pep Boys sold a line of cheap Chinese accessories under the "Rally" brand name.

You mean that stuff was not legit rally parts?

I have been debating putting a gold griffin on my wagon's hood like an older black trans am.
