GROUP BUY: Sport and Rally Seat Skins

Postby RadioFlyer » Fri Nov 07, 2014 10:50 am

Anyone interested? I'm thinking about taking a borrowed original skin (thanks Geoff!) to a local friend who is a pro upholsterer to see what he thinks about making a bunch of these at a rate proportional to the amount of orders. No idea the price yet - may have to run it by a few different upholsterers to get a good idea. They don't have many pieces and corduroy is far cheaper than leather. Let me know if you have interest and I'll see if i can negotiate a price.

You know I'd probably take a set.

A few people I work with recommended a seamstress in Lebanon for her quality/price. I'll send you her info in case you want to check with her.

I might be interested as well. I think I still have an original set though they are in pretty worn condition. Had thought about having some new ones made up at some point but have not had a need yet.

I'm wondering if it makes sense to build these in a material other than corduroy, something that doesn't wear out as fast.s The corduroy is pretty cool though.

Also of interest, early S&R seat cover for 96/early 99

Did we talk about that when we saw each other last? I know this has come up before. The issue was that cord wears out and flakes off. That would be a problem. But I have been looking at the finer cord lately and it seems to hold up much better. Maybe that's the key. I'd be open to something like suede though. Has to be retro.

I would definitely be interested, the suede seems like a good idea.

Will the s&r logo be part of the deal? If yes, the quality or will it look like a bad knockoff?

Hoping to find someone who can make as close to an original as possible for an affordable price.

Yeah, I'll probably just drop off my '80 900 passenger seat to have the person build a set to fit. These are the 900 seats that were inherited from the 99 - with the removable headrest like the ones in the pics in the first post.
