Went for 2500. I looked into their auction for my 83, but they want $200 to list it. That's a pretty significant amount for a car worth around $3k.

It also costs money to win the auction. The 96 I just won through there had a $250 fee for winning the auction. They have a 5% of winning bid up to $500 or something like that....I think its an attempt to weed out the flakes. The moment the auction ends and you are the winning bidder the account you specified gets billed $250. Not sure what happens if that transaction fails.

That's pretty standard fare for an auction.

Typically the seller pays a listing fee, and cough up a % for commission. There is generally a 10% buyers premium as well.

I did a little part time gig for a local auctioneer for a while.

Ebay is no where near that, though. I sold my BMW a couple months ago for a lot more than that and the fees weren't too bad.

Its standard for more traditional auctions. Ebay has no buyers fee that I recall just a sellers fee.

Right, just seems like they are sticking it to the seller twice. For cars under $5k, buyers will hesitant to bid the full price knowing they have to kick in another couple hundred bucks to the auction company.
Seems to work for BaT, though. They seem to get bigger all the time and lots of eyes on that site.

when you place a bid in their auctions the price goes to your bid amount. On ebay when you place a bid the auction increases by a some amount but not the full amount. So in some ways the BAT setup is nicer. The BAT setup also reduces the ability to snipe because each new bid in the last minutes of the auction extends the auction time by 3 minutes.
