I'm converting my 79 to a five speed. I have a good gear box out of an 81 but I am having trouble finding the shifter rod with the centering spring at the shifter housing. I already have the plastic lower shifter housing for the conversion. anyone have one they would part with? thanks . Aaron

I believe you are mostly correct, the change was mid-year 1986. Where are you located?

Hey, By actually paying attention to who is here I realize you are here in Portland.
I'm pretty sure I have what you need and I've just had several shifter assemblies on the bench
playing with ignition switches.
