That's it! I've had it! No more automatics!!!
I'm just about to start putting another automatic in wifey's '89 900S. This is number 7 in about 300,000 miles and it won't happen again. I've got no confidence that this one will last any longer than any of the others so I'm looking for a wrecked or rusted 5-speed donor car so this travesty can be put right. She's just gonna have to learn to use a clutch!
SAAB? Who makes that?

I've been shamefully driving an '86 900S automatic (2dr notchback though!) for 83K miles (car has 188K on it and the tranny had been replaced not long before I got it). I've been using Amsoil Type F fluid in it, driving it daily, rallycrossing and TSD rallies in the winter, pulling 3000lbs of cordwood/trailer through New Hampshire and the tranny is just now starting to act up

Automatically standard

Can I assume that with the two cars sitting side-by-side this would be a straight swap? I'm pretty sure the firewall and pedal hangers are the same, so all I'd need would be the myriad of parts for the pedals and shifter.

yep, if you have a whole donor car you should be all set. Shifter, clutch master, and pedals is a about it though. There are a few years where the brake pedals are not a perfect match, abs stuff i guess. I encountered this once so I just welded the the smaller foot pad to the original auto deal. The manual trans from the car pictured to the left is now in a car that used to be an auto. Both cars were 88's without abs so it was a straight swap.

that is true, but replacing a clutch every 6 months might get old real fast.Jordan wrote:Clutch job on a 900 is way easier than replacing a trans...
