We've been getting some bots slipping by lately... I just increased the difficulty of the visual confirmation module, so we'll see if that helps.

I don't know if it is bots... I think it is just poorly paid impoverished people. Could be though.

I assume that there's software now that can interpret captchas? <googles> Hmm, looks like there is.
I know of a forum that nixed captchas in favor of asking a "secret" question about the community that only a person who is knowledgeable with the forum's content could answer (unless the spammer wanted to take the time to search). You could do all sorts of esoteric questions about Saabs:
What's the engine displacement of a B201? What's the engine code for XX motor? What's the bolt PCD on a 1978 99? How many valves per cyl on a B202?
You know, random cr@p that Saab nuts can usually easily answer...

yep I've seen several forums that do that. Its a very good idea. Some also go to the extent of approving new members manually.

Well I can't speak for Jordan or Luke, but I don't think any of us want to go through the hassle of approving members manually. I do like the question idea. I think we could implement that pretty easily with some sort of plugin. Also, I think the updated version of phpbb has some captcha upgrades.
